Hello the pump is making a high pitched noise for the first two minutes after I start my car. Is this normal? If I put pressure on it the noise will soften dramatically

Certainly not normal. Check the hoses for leaks/cracks. Be sure to check under the larger hose with a mirror (or disconnect it) as cracks can occur underneath. That quarter-inch hose goes bad a lot owing to the proximity of engine heat. It's a real bear to change: the back end is holed up to a plastic hose that can crack off with too much force.

Are you putting pressure on the secondary air pump circled in the picture?
Some times I have seen the rivets that hold the cases of the pump together come loose so the pressure is coming out the sides and making noise. If that was happening remove rivets and install bolts
You need a pump, the bearings fail due to corrosion. When you push down on the top you change the load on the bearing, that is why the noise lessens.
Mark.
Pump usually fails from moisture due to the shut off valve sticking open. Remove the tube from the shut off valve with the engine running after the sap has turned off. If you can hear/feel exhaust coming out of the inlet to the valve where the tube connects disconnect the small vacuum hose. If it is still coming out the shut off valve needs to be replaced. If the exhaust stops when you disconnect the vacuum line check the vacuum solenoid. Hope this helps you.

When mine broke in my e36, I just removed it and replaced with a sim. It was a while ago, but here's the DIY I put together:
