Yeah. The "GT" is an easy give-away for the V8, and I also know almost nothing about Mustangs (except that the new GT350 ones are supposed to be pretty bad ass, and not just muscle-car wise, but track handling wise...)

It's the V8. The V6 was completely gutless in that generation, no point in getting that. I got it because it was cheap— right around $1000 for a V8 convertible with an LSD and a 5-speed. For that price, why the heck not?! I did a build on it with my friend and then he drove it to LA to thrash it around for a YouTube challenge, and then I went to LA and drove the Mustang back home. It's been dead reliable, even with around 200k miles. My friend and I got the radio working, fixed the AC (ice cold now), lowered it by cutting the springs, and removed the whole back of the exhaust to make it crazy loud.
My plan is to make it a cheap drag racer. It's already set up pretty well for that, with its factory LSD, solid rear axle, and one-piece driveshaft (no guibos or bushings at all). It rips burnouts like crazy even in stock form. This is basically my abuse car, because I guarantee something would break in my touring if I did burnouts in it all day.
Parts are dirt cheap and all available at Autozone, so that's been pretty rad too. I got an idle control valve with a lifetime warranty for $40 out the door, and got a PCV tube, PCV, throttle body gaskets, etc. for like $30. It takes 87 gas and runs smoother than any M62tu I've ever heard. Granted, it has much less horsepower, being a dumb SOHC with no variable valve timing of any kind. Stock it makes something like 215hp and 280lb-ft of torque. Lots of low end torque in a car that weighs around 3400lbs still makes for a pretty good time. And since Ford put this 4.6L modular into damn near every car at the time (Crown Vic, Explorer, Econoline, F-150), there's a ginormous aftermarket of cheap go-fast parts.
I knew nothing about Mustangs as well, but it's been a fun experience working on this one so far. There's a lot more metric under the hood than I expected, and everything is dead simple/cheap. It definitely feels like a cheap car though, the doors feel like cardboard when you close them, compared to the somber bank-vault feel of an E39 door.
