1JZs are a JDM turbo motor. They are known for being very stout and a well beaten path for power upgrades. 2JZs are better but significantly more expensive (and 3 liters instead of 2.5). Easy to get, easy to drop in.

Oh gotchya. I thought 1Js came in N/A form also like 2Js. I have noticed that 1Js sound pretty phenomenal in a lot of cases (and this E46 sounded great).
they came in both n/a and turbo i believe but when it comes to swaps its usually assumed the turbo model is being used i think?

Thanks Jester. I looked a little bit on eBay, man they ARE cheap!!
Another damn bookface video, this dude got the day started off on the right foot at the Halloween Bash!:

Isn't that 740 a 210mm diff? If so, the E46M3 LSD unit will bolt in to it.
That would be sweet! Well, that plus a muffler delete so we could hear that V12 singing.
Since the weather has been getting colder, my E85 tune has seemed to be more and more cold blooded, sometimes taking 4 or 5 attempts to start and stay started. Over the weekend I spent quite a few hours working on cold-start tunes in RomRaider, and eventually dialed one in that seems pretty nice, even if it is a bit richer (on the gasoline scale) than I would have ordinarily tuned a cold start on gasoline.
And before anyone says "OF COURSE YOU DUMBASS, ETHANOL HAS A VASTLY DIFFERENT STOICH POINT!!!" or something to that effect, I get that. I just like to use the gasoline AFR scale because I'm familiar with where I want to be on it, and it really doesn't matter what fuel you use. It's just a different way to express lambda. Someday maybe I will force myself to start using lambda.. I don't know.
Anyway, here is the world's most boring video of my AFR gauge readout from today's SINGLE-CRANK cold start at about 10 degrees C -- 1:50 of your life that you will never get back! :
Clicked to watch numbers, stayed for the guitar diddy.

Finally a video popped up with a few cars on it from the Halloween Bash. My beater makes a worthless cameo appearance at 1:00, splashing through the mud in the infield, but the real star of this video (aside from the yoga pants and pony tail at :10--How do you beat that combo?) is audioscience10's (Nic's) 750iL absolutely smoking the bejeezus out of a tire at 1:07:
Open diff, but still completely awesome! You really need to muffler delete that bastard (assuming they still have the big resonators that you leave in like the E39s) and put an LSD from an older version 750 or something in it. Would be a sick sounding sweet drifting mofo.
this whole thread is full of fun.

Way too much love in this sub lately. Someone call someone else a dick or troll.

Yeah, it needs a little uglying up, doesn't it.
I've been neglecting this thread and the LRS a bit lately because I'm hoping some guys will be putting out a new video from the Halloween Bash soon that should finally let me see what this sucker looks like in motion sideways, and because I've been trying to focus back on finally finishing up the 540i6 turbo project. That's what I was working on before I bought this thing to try out some drifting and got totally distracted for the rest of the summer and fall. To put some heat on me to actually stay on task with that much less fun project, I decided to make a build thread on it. I've kind of set a requirement for myself that I have to get it done or at least driving out of the garage before I can slap a turbo on the LRS, which I want to do pretty badly... So in case anyone is bored, here is the 540 thread.
In lieu of posting the cool video I was hoping for, I guess I'll just post some cool pics people took of this sh!tbox with the different wheel and tire combos I ran on it for some documentation. I have already posted some of the 17" Style 19s on the front with the Vellozzas on them, and the 16x6.5 e46 steelies on the back with 205/45 Antares Ingens A1s on the back. The other wheels and tires I ran on the back with the Vellozzas on the front were (hold on, way too many deceased tires, too little brain power for remembering them all...): Federal 595s 195/45-15 on e36 328i wheels, OLD Mastercraft or something like that 205/60-15 tires that came on the car when I bought it and still had the tiniest amount of tread left. These are them I think:

Then there were the e39 528i wheels I picked up, that I ran the Walmart Rydanz Roadster tires on earlier in the fall (that fell apart quite rapidly), and then for this event I had Antares Ingens A1 195/50R15s on them. The offset of these wheels looks much better than the e36 wheels, and seems fine for driftage:

Man, I can't believe how many people took such killer shots at that event. It's like photographing and shooting video of hacks like me, and a few good people, playing around at a drifting event is almost as much of an activity as the drifting itself. Love it!!!
The only remaining setup I ran is the 205/40-17 Velozzas on Style 19 540i6 wheels moved to the back, and my other Style 19 driving around wheels with some 245/45-17s on them slapped back on the front for steer tires. The Vellozzas were phenomenal, and required me to really chuck this bastard to make driftage happen. Ideally it needs a bit more power to make things work well with them I suppose:

Actually I'm not at all sure that those last two are the tire/wheel combo I said they were, but whatever, they're sweet. Haha...

I concur really great photos... makes it look like I was actually doing something... great driving btw, I was pretty salty till I read u had some racing background.
Thanks man, I saw you shredding out there -- Looked excellent!! Hopefully some more nice video will pop up yet from that event.
What is the setup on your car?
Man this thread is awesome. I'm always jealous of the tracks everyone gets to have close by.
Vegasdrift is usually just a rough floor parking lot. Speedway doesn't like us drifters on their tracks much :/
