Thanks brother DokB!! I definitely don't need another one of these 4L30e transmissions, but thank you for asking.
I should be saying an automatic "no thanks" on the engine too, but I'm having a harder time with that... I think I'm going to go with a sheepish "no thanks, I guess" and try to stick to it.

I see bad decisions being made.
Status: Someone put glitter in my oil. Wait. Why's all my oil outside the engine? What's that knocking?
lol bad decisions started with deciding to mod cars. Touche sir.

Bad decisions are the spice of life, I'm not even sure why we call them bad. Haha
Gif ends too soon.

I couldn't agree more! (with both of those thoughts)
Ok, I have to say, you have piqued my interest in exactly what the difference is? I am dubious that you have a valid point.
What do the rest of you guys have to say about this distinction? Is it something real (not that it matters to me really, but I'm curious), or is it a distinction without a difference?

Had a fun day on Sunday BTW, slushbox trans is still hanging in there as good as ever!

There's a decent video of a pretty good run on facebook, but so far I am completely mystified as to how to get it to link properly...

A good dude put this video up on facebook, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to link directly to it on there, so here it is by another means:
I have tons of excuses for spinning out in the infield, but why bother haha.. The main reason is that I'm not very good at this stuff, but I do have lots of fun. So be it!
The jap way of drifting is more so to enter with the most speed possible and slide throughout.
The difference here with FD is that we like smoke shows so they pack a ton of grip and powerslide the car essentially most of the course.
Both are drifting. Keep drifting fun
Cool video, car sounds cool with the turbo :p
instagram @andyitslit
So powerslide
many false drift

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate the enlightnement! Obviously I didn't have a clue..
Thanks for this also! The $169 eBay ("GT35") turbo is a champ!! It has completely surpassed my hopes, and actually it has given me better service so far than my Precision turbos did. As much as it saddens me to say it about 'Merican products, I don't see me buying another name brand turbo at this point.
Currently the trans controller is giving me a fair amount of trouble (understandably), but I want to do something even more stupid with this car if I can work it out. Hopefully I'll be able to give this turbo a better work out and at least double the boost at some point in the not too distant future. I did spend a little bit of money on a big nice intercooler, and I even went to the trouble of re-torquing the 225k miles head bolts before I slapped on the turbo, so with the e85 I'm running, I expect this sucker to eat more boost and like it.
You had me literally laughing pretty damn hard with this!
After giving this topic some consideration though, and with the education from Press22, I sort of think what the other dude was saying is that I was driving like a big puss. And I can respect that.
Looking at this video I just posted as an example, even with all of my "stock angle, it was starting to rain, my rear tires were delaminating," and whatever other assorted excuses I could make, it looks like I was entering the drifts like I didn't want to tip over my purse and have my feminine products fall out...
GOTTA UP MY GAME YO!
the thing is, "japanese" drifting is all about entry simply because they don't always run high powered cars like the american FD guys. therefore they lose some momentum by the time they exit. however, by the time they exit they are power sliding just like the FD guys, just at a lower speed.
what you're doing is a pretty fair combination of the two and looks just fine to me.
oh and i can tell you exactly why you're spinning out. You're out-driving the front end. an angle kit will almost certainly eliminate your spin out. at least the one in the above video. if you already have an angle kit (which..it honestly doesn't look like it) then disregard. just means you're in the same boat as me and we just have to git gud

Thanks, I appreciate the input! I do believe my main thing is that I have to improve my skills, but I'm trying to be careful to not be serious in any way about drifting so that I can keep it in the realm of something that is pure fun for me. Of course, part of it being fun is the adrenaline part, which is a bit muted by initiating drifts too "carefully," which is why I say I need to up my game on the initiations. I think that was already eating at me before this other dude may have called me out on it (if that is what he meant).
Maybe to your last point, I need to have more angle so I have a better chance of initiating harder without looping it more often than saving it?
I have a beautiful SLR Budget Kit sitting on a shelf waiting. I kind of wanted to get the 540 turbo project boosting to see if that could end up being my nice car and drift-fun-haver all in one (even though it's a manual trans 6-spd haha). I'm a bit torn between learning to drift with a stock car so I don't cover up my inadequacies with car improvements, and adding power and and angle because I just want to.
Honestly I have a hard time not slapping a turbo on everything I own, so I gave into that one with this LRS, haha. My excuse for that was the auto trans "absorbing extra power" and "muting throttle inputs so more power was needed." Nice justifications I think.
Thanks brother! I do appreciate the thought, but as above, I'm pretty enamored of the fancy angle parts I have sitting already. I hear there may be another event on a tighter track nearby sometime later in August, so I might just have to stop resisting and install the SLR stuff. Especially if someone on here helps me justify it.

DUDE, that is some serious angle!!
I forgot you have the SLR kit just sittin on a shelf.
i put 3 6mm rack limiters on each side and can still shove the stock wheels into the wells. So much angle for so cheap.

Did you extend your control arms?

Nope.
i also don't usually run stock wheels. Usually I run low offset 9" wheels up front. But I haven't had them on since the limiters.
