[Before and after comparison with 91 octane]
Here are the knock adaptations tables for before and after...
The latest tune isn't perfect, but I'm very happy with the new result especially considering where I started from. Now I'm ready to move on to the E85...
Before (91 octane, 2.62") - 1/31/2019
After (91 octane, 2.62", 50:50 ratio, better fuel and ignition) - 5/18/2020
EDIT: E85, 2.62", 50:50 ratio, with base tune shows 0 knock, 0 retardation) - 6/19/2020

You've been busy! Did you run E85 with your current injectors and fuel pump?
-Phil
Hey Phil, yes been kept busy indeed.
I haven't run e85 yet though. I'm just about finishing up the 91 octane tune. And then I will probably get started on it as the knock still persists (but considerably less now). If you have any tips or suggestions regarding e85 (as it is new for me), it would be greatly appreciated!!

Oh ok, I started looking into e85 but then decided to go the WMI route to deal with knock. e85 will probably be better for your setup if you're looking to raise the boost more than 13psi. I'm still at stock boost level and using the 250 nozzle. I do want to test the 500 to see if there would be even better results. Though I haven't put together the data logging setup yet.
-Phil
When I tried the 250 nozzle (50:50, 1psi min/10psi max) along with 3.33 pulley, I thought it complimented the 3.33 pretty well (even without any tweak to the tune).
It made the motor more responsive especially at the top end (but I needed an adjustable bov because the vfe bov started letting go around 9-10psi).
With the 3.33, I also noticed that I was able to reasonably manage the knock only with the tune. But the 50:50 wmi definitely helped in the high rpm/load situation.
With wmi, I think when I switched to 2.62 is when I really started noticing the difference. It felt as though the motor finally woke up from asleep (not sure how else to describe the sensation). In prior, it would start strong; then, it ends up at about the 3.33 mid-to-top-end performance range (due to knock and high iat, resulting in significant negative ignition timing).
Anyhow for daily use, I will probably stay with a gasoline tune even after I finish the e85 experiment (or I may change mind and decide to stay with it).

[Dual vacuum cutout "butterfly" valve exhaust]
Well, I finally have done it... A set of butterfly valves... I also put the resonators back in.
The closed valves are slightly louder than stock. I like the new sound very much.
The opened valves sounded considerably better than expected but might be too much for daily driving.

[E85 update]
Disclaimer: For informational use only.
I did the e85 transition today.
In addition to the global fuel and ignition timing above (#51), I updated the cranking fuel (30% increase) as shown below.
I waited until I was low on 91 octane fuel, then I filled up with 7 gallons of e85 fuel at home to be safe. Once filled up, I started with the 91 octanes tuned dme to burn up the gasoline. Then i switched to the e85 dme. After gasoline in fuel-line was burnt up, idle stabilized with e85 and became smooth.
After that, I took the z3 out for an initial test drive. I took my laptop with the cable with me just in case. During the test drive, the motor felt so much lively overall. Thankfully, I also didn't feel any timing retardation (no engine sputter). With the current ignition and with 91 octanes, it was very noticeable. Throughout the test drive, AFR also stayed within the safe range. Not too bad for the initial run, I thought. But I decided to hold off on WOT until I do the log to be safe.
Upon finishing the test drive, all I could say was "Oh Wow!!" I also thought to myself 'Why have I hesitated so long to do this?' I can't wait to log and start having more fun with optimizing the tune (i.e., increase the top rpm/load timing and the fuel map which I couldn't do before)!
I must say, I owe to the everyone's help here!
Edit: Verified the E85 base tune (with no adjustment except ignition advancement) with 0 knock, 0 retardation in post #52.

E85 friendly fuel pump with assembly... Crossed off my todo list.
Now, I need to install it and re-optimize the tune.

I've encountered an unusual cooling fan issue and fix for my z3, and here is the link for it. It also lists some interesting facts that I've found regarding the subject along the way.

It's been a while since I posted any update.
Here is the latest (done a few months back) iteration on the WMI set-up. I separated the reservoir and located it where the oil cooler used to sit.

I found a fluid container from eBay that I used to build my own.

I don't exactly know what it was intended for original use. But it fit my purpose nicely. Perhaps someone here knows what it is for. If so, can you let me know, please? Just curious.

An injection solenoid was added (although you can barely see the side connector of it on the right side of photo (sorry).

...And I had to add the ricey kill switch 'just because' it's shiny...

Almost done. Just need to close up the intake pipe and connect some plugs under the car (e.g., plugs for ABS, reverse, and fuel regulator).
All these... Because it didn't occur to me to check the relay spec and put the wrong relay in when I was reverting the SAP delete...
I had always thought that relay plugs were designed in a way so that they don't fit unless they are intended. But I was wrong. So don't be like me... Double-check the relay specs ..
