SS clutch lines... Finally replacing brittle oem lines while doing the clutch line flush...
IMG_20181115_191859.jpg
Not shown here, but I ended up replacing the clutch slave altogether as its nozzle was slowly leaking and letting air in...
And oh boy, did I think I was having a heartache when the above happened... . Apparently many inexperienced or even experienced but careless folks (i.e., for me, inexperienced and careless particularly) supposedly go through it.

Randy's subframe reinforcement kit. - Marked it off my to do list!
I haven't post much update lately as I had some curve balls thrown at my life both family and work. But I'm happy to say that it is past now with better outlook and some spare time to get back into my z3!
And here is the most recent one... Pardon my craftsmanship though.

Resonators deleted...

As background, I've always liked the stock muffler sounds (even the 2000+/- rpm drone). But I felt it was lacking with 2.5" tips and the a little bit in exhaust sound in higher rpm. And I wasn't able to settle for a particular exhaust system.
With the 3" tips (by Eurosport Design) previously done, I finally got to try deleting the resonators, and it seemed to work for my need. I understand some s54 folks prefer adding resonators because of the rasp sound. But as for me, it was the cup of tea which I've been seeking. It makes about the same sounds as stock until it reaches 3000 rpm, then it adds the a bit of rasp sounds.
I added some video clips in case anyone might find it helpful because I'd also had hard time finding good sources when I was researching. But also note that it sounds much louder than it really is in the videos (i.e., It really has almost about the same sounds except it has that rasp above 3000rpm).

My cluster gauges have been increasingly developing dark spots (not shown here though).
So I recently removed and fixed them with sanding the clear backplate method (i.e., making the surface frosty).

Chrome Roll Bar
A couple of months ago, I stumbled upon a listing for a set of chrome roll bars from a Z3 forum in South Korea.
Upon talking with the seller, both seller and I gained the confidence so we decided to make a deal. Payment and shipping was a bit of challenge, but it went through.
7 weeks and across the Pacific, they finally arrived. And I couldn't be happier. ;-)

Then I quickly learn that the VFE's DV was letting go at about 9-10 psi. With an adjustable BOV (set at about 15 psi), it stopped releasing the boost.

However, IAT issue became more prominent (due to considerably higher iat...).

Intake Manifold Water Injection
This is the route which I've decided to experiment...
IAT at fuel cut-off:
- Currently at about 175F in 65F weather.
- Targeting for 50~70F lowered temperature.

Next step: Tubing, test-wiring, and mounting the controller, probably inside of DME box (later, it was relocated to the cabin behind of where a head unit would go), etc...

Looking forward to see how much the temps drop with the water injection.
-Phil
The car is adapting down a lot of ignition advance, very likely due to the extra boost and intake temps. May have to send you a bit lower ignition advance.

[Experimental trials and errors]
Cliff notes from learned lesson:
100% is very effective in reducing iat. But it also dilutes fuel, which causes more knocks... And I settled with the 50/50 mix in the end.
--
[NOTE] I used the Torque with a cheap ebay dongle... So please ignore all other data except the IAT.

Idle IAT
Screenshot_20190201-143730.png
Near 5-6k rpm IAT in similar outside temp (which is about 45F drop from the original 175F est.). After some adjusting MIN/MAX psi and swapping nozzles, I was able to reach 114F with distilled water, no methanol.
In short, it did help improving the heat-soak under the load. And I was impressed when it did. Originally I thought it would engage at preset psi then simply normalize and spray linearly until it reached max psi... Interestingly (although i don't fully understand how the injection algorithm works), it seems to try conserving the w/m fluid during normal operation...which makes sense, I suppose. It does operate very smoothly though.
The downside is that it works as a just-in-time system. It isn't an intercooler replacement. So it idles hot and runs hot like normal heat-soaked engine. But under certain boost, it lowers IAT (which is more than adequate for now). FWIW, I thought it was an interesting technology. I also thought this type of system would work even better if it had intercooler in conjunction... But for now, it is what it is. And I am happy with it.

Here is the latest progress/update
- New AFR kit to replace the old one.
- Disabled pre-c** o2s b*** 2 (wb o2s in its place)
- Disabled EWS, Sa*, EV**** test, em*****n readines
- Plan to test incremental -5% fuel map for 50/50 WM ratio. - 100% of water to reduce the IAT resulted in too much knock...
- Added a manual on-off switch to WMI
2020-04-20.jpg
I had some accuracy and latency issues with the 30psi gauge. So I replaced it with a 15psi gauge with better quality.
