Hey guys I have a 2009 328i X-drive coupe. I decided to go the winter tires route this year. I found a set of rims on cg for $300, they also came off a 2009.
My dilemma:
1. Do I buy run flat winter tires, only ones on tirerack are $220 each, plus I have to get sensors which are $50 each. Then get them swapped/balanced at tire place, maybe have dealer do it.
2. Take the cheap way out, buy regular winter tires, I usually buy Pirelli's or Michelin or Yokohama tires. No need to buy sensors, but I assume my dashboard light will come on? and I would keep one of my tires on car now in trunk in case of flat.
Is option 2 a wise choice? It will save me money, but don't wanna regret it either if it's not the way to go?
Thanks
If you're going to be using the winter tires seasonally; just get a set of regular ones. Personally, I'm not a fan of run-flats at all and replaced mine with standard ones on my 135i. I feel that they're too stiff and decrease handling (just my opinion).... Dashboard light shouldn't come on; mine work well with my TPS monitor.

You can save money and have more options with the non run flats. If you are mounting them on your original wheels you don't need new sensors. If it is wheels and tires then you would need the sensors or the light will stay on. We can send you a complete wheel, tire and sensors package already mounted and balanced for the car.
If I can help let me know.
I run non-run-flats on my car in the winter (with sensors though), and I'll be switching to non-run-flats year round when my current summer tires wear out. I don't personally notice a huge difference in ride quality, but the noise from the regular tires is noticeably less than the run-flats, despite the regular ones being winter tires.
It's ALL ball bearings nowadays!
