Weight:
not sure yet. I'll measures it all up and weigh it out when it's in my hands (Monday with luck)
Cost after this first run:
I'm not entirely sure. I have some thinking to do there but the goal has been from day one to NOT try and get rich from these but I don't want to go in debt from them either. I'd like to sit around $230-280 if I can.
I'll know more after its here and I can gague how much it is to ship to various places, to ship from CA (not sure if Rick really wants the hassle) or WA (involving two shipping costs, one to me and one to the customer)
How much will the next batch cost me to run, how much interest there is after this first batch.
Sorry. I know these aren't answers but until I have one on my table, I'm confused and void of tangible answers. I will get back to you on these asap however.
how different is this one vs the Ebay one?

Let me get this folks. Unfortunately I don't now how to link it to plattus 1000's post of "if it was available would you want a spoiler". But the answer is, this exists BECAUSE of the eBay spoiler.
The eBay one is floppy, cheaply made, and not a replica of the OEM spoiler, rather an aftermarket one made to look like it sort of. The one that is talked about in this thread is stronger fiberglass, and it is molded to be an EXACT copy of an OEM spoiler, bar the BMW logo. If you want a half assed cheap one, get the eBay. If you are looking for a replica of the very hard to find OEM spoiler, buy this one.

Maybe it's just that I'm old and cranky and understand how people get this way. Colton, you wrote a very nice response, however the very first post of this thread listed all the reasons for this new option, any why not the eBay spoiler. I guess I don't have as much patience as I should.
I am not trying to be an Ass, Colton your answer was what I was looking for, thanks
I didn't read Wagons Ho's thread.... My mistake.
I see the pictures in the later posts (put them in the first post),
I'm not a body/paint guy so the less prep the better on our side.
And sell the Good points.... Sell it!
- These are better made!
- These are closer to OE
- These will need little prep before paint
- These will hold up better and last longer
From what I saw and know (I am no touring Spoiler Expert) I just read the initial thread it didn't give a whole lot of details on what you would get for the money.
If it's as close to OE as we can get that's great!

Hey flyover. I'm glad you revised your post. Some of us try to get all the info out there but it depends on the readers to do their part. This was a lot of work for Plattus and my only involvement was pointing out the shortcomings of the eBay spoiler.
Was material shrinkage factored into the mold? Recently read this and wondered if this was factored into the consideration.
Polyester resin has about a 6% volume shrinkage on cure compared to less than 3% for epoxy. How the shrinkage shows up in a part can be pretty complex. It may go unnoticed in a wet-laid or vacuum-bagged part but can cause insurmountable headaches in a closed mold where shrinkage results in separation from the mold surface and pitting. Fiber orientation, part thickness, fiber volume and cure temperature are all important factors.

First, this isn't Rick's first run at making well sorted parts in fiberglass or plastics. So I trust he understands what you're talking about as well as he should.
It's the reason I'll have one mounted before I sell them. They need to be right.
Relax, I'll be nervous for both of us.

Wow Batman! That totally looks like a factory piece! Rick sure knows his stuff, very nice work!

Yep, any surface will always need some prep work, just no way around it for a proper coating of basecoat and a couple layers of clear.

Looks awesome

Hey spoilorboyz
Some stuff for ya.
This says 2.28kg. Which is pretty much 5lbs on the nose.
So you're right in the ballpark
One advantage of the reps is that they are missing all the printing that's on the OEM part.
This ID Panel is embossed into the upper corner - see next 2 pix. Now naturally I guess you just flat-sand that out before priming if it bothers you (will be invisible to most people when installed so even if you don't wouldn't be a big deal) but you won't have that to deal with.
In pix above you can see the double stick tape provided on the part, but this is the adhesive it also comes with.
You put this inside the outline of the double stick tape I guess, and slap it down and clamp in place until it cures.
HTH.

Oh and I have a sheaf of paper that comes with it but I've done some OCR and translation on it and it basically is a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense about complying with regulations and TUV certifications and copyrights and import/export and whatnot - nothing useful that I could see in a quick and dirty OCR-translate.

Nice work on the spoiler. That prototype looks great. If I wasn't working on a custom rear spoiler, I totally woulda gotten in on this...
Regarding the Betalink adhesive that GG posted a pic of. It's pretty amazing stuff. BMW uses it for most of it's aerodynamics upgrades and it's super strong. The first time I installed an E90 spoiler at the dealership using it I was a little skeptical, but once cured it's super strong...
