Hey bf, I'm not prone to things like this and am no expert at doing what I'm about to do;
We're taking an original oem new old stock touring spoiler and remolding it. Finding one of these is about impossible at the moment and the current aftermarket versions as described inside a thread here:
http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...want-a-spoiler
Are less than desirable. Poor Wagons Ho.
So, the guy doing the manufacturing is a well-known entity in the M5 world (Slimmbones on m5board.com) with a great reputation and many happy customers. I am just a guy who thought it'd be neat if there was an option to the current offerings that not only fit but looked right. Bimmermeupsnotty and I talked with Rick aka Slimmbones and he's willing to give it a go using polyethylene. He has mentioned we could go with Carbon Fiber but the cost would be over 2X what we were looking for so let's not even talk about that for now.
Here, I just want to say this: I WILL NOT sell anything I wouldn't put on my car. I'm 100% positive feedback on ebay since 2000, have sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stuff on Craigslist during that same time and never been sued or had my ass kicked for trying to screw someone over.
I'm honestly trying to offer something as good as I can for a price that isn't insane or designed to get rich off of. I live in these forums and do not want a bad reputation. That said, if there is EVER a problem with one of our spoilers, I'll be glad to fix, replace or refund purchase price to make you happy. I donated my own never painted, still in the box spoiler for this experiment so outside of the start-up cost, I'm risking the first purchase I made for my wagon. I'm nervous too but I trust Rick based on what I've seen, read and heard. I'm flying down to see him and the process at the end of this month, October.
We're (if all goes well) slotted to open shipping the last week of December 2016!
I have no hard data to confirm price but my goal was to be close to $200-250 plus shipping. I'm here now to get a feel for how many orders we might fill on the first run but I need an idea of how many people would want one.
You can pm me or better yet just add your post below to indicate interest. I'd appreciate less discussion here in this thread. Use the link above for that.
I will be priming/painting and installing one as soon as I can for photographs but since I live 2 states away from where they'll be made, you'll have to wait to throw $ at me. Sucks I know but I want to see, feel and play with the first one to make sure its something I'm comfortable selling.
So, raise your hand if you think that if available and I stand behind it, you'll want one.
(partly this is so my wife gets off my back about money I shouldn't spend on a project that doesn't involve her. She's really not that bad but it has come up a few times when $ and cars are in my vocabulary at the same time)
Thanks guys, this is fun.
The spoiler we're making the molds of came from the East coast to Washington state when I bought it, I sent it to Virginia, then to the West coast in California and eventually back to my home in Washington before all this is done. Crazy trip for it.

Clarification:
These will be made, I'm just trying to gague how many pieces need to be made for the first run. After that, we'll just make up 10 at a time.
As a bonus to those in the 1st run here. I'll find a great adhesive to send along and lower the final price by $20 as my way of saying thank you in a more tangible way.
Thanks guys. Your trust means a lot.

Silly question here - does one need to remove the existing spoiler before installation or does this just sit on top of that one?

Yes, interested.
Would someone please post a pic of what the spoiler would look like and how it would attach to the car?
It glues on with no fasteners. The OEM one comes with some double-stick tape on it but also some body panel adhesive, I guess as the extra-insurance.
Here's some rando pix from immerwebz derived by using the amazing secret technique of putting "e39 touring rear spoiler" into the Google machine and clicking 'images'.
