Z4M Style 224 wheels
Front 18x8 et 42
Rear 18x9 et 30
The existing tires are factory sizes of 225/45-18 and 255/40-18. I put these on for a check of fitment. Looks ok, but the fronts barely rub the bottom of the spring seat of the strut with the inside row of tread (about 1" wide) and it looks like at least 25mm spacers or new front tires are going to have to happen. I think these fronts would rub the fender liners with spacers as it is very tight, about 1/2" clearance front and back of the fender well with the wheels turned lock to lock. These tires are about 3/4" to 1" larger diameter than what is already on the car (225/50-16) from my quick and dirty measuring. I noticed there is not a surplus of clearance with the 225/50-16s that came on the car, maybe 1/2" or so.
Is 225/40-18 front and 255/35-18 appropriate diameter and width? I think this would give me about 8mm of vertical clearance on the fronts.
While I am at it, I would like tires with a high treadwear rating and a decent ride. I might whip in and out of a corner every now and then, but I am more concerned with durability (tires not known for bubbling/delam), value, protecting the wheels (something with a sidewall that isn't too soft, but not run flat), and a decent ride than all out performance. After driving a Suburban for a few years this roadster already feels like a race kart. I'm in Florida so snow traction is not on my list of priorities. Any help or advice appreciated.
