Red SRS light on dash is flashing after battery change

I hadn't started the 8 in 3 weeks and it wouldn't start even with a jump. The batteries were two year old Bosch 91's from Pep Boys. I took them in for a free replacement and Pep Boys told me only one was dead. They charged up the "good" one and gave me a new battery. The 8 started right up but that little SRS light flashes on the dash. What gives?

No they did not. But I tried charging the battery on the driver's side that way. Could that really be the cause?

You may have damaged the SRS module which is located above the cover in the passenger side foot well, under the glove box. Because you have an early car, try this: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...-Special-Tools

If you look closely, the pin numbers are stamped. Search BMW 20-pin connector for diagrams. Here's one: http://www.one-stop-electronics.com/...nnector_25.jpg

Let us know if this works.

No one mentioned it in this thread, but replacing just one battery is not recommended for these cars.
I believe the golden rule is to always install two new batteries, which will help reduce the risk of damage to electronic components.
