Fantastic build. This is truly a " dream car" for the E38 aficionados.
OP would you care to share with us what was the cost of such a project?
What were the pitfalls of the project? Engine/ tranny supports ? Engine management?
I would like to embark on something like this but I'd like to have an idea what I'm jumping into before taking the jump.
Tnx
Holy shit! This build is phenomenal.
The dye in the interior is just amazing, I'd been avoiding tan interiors when I looked at cars but that caramel dye looks so complete you can't even tell it was dyed. How is it holding up?
Thanks, guys!!! I dont want to be reminded about what I spent . It is currently over $50k. But it's the best car I have ever driven and I couldn't think of another car under $75k that I would prefer to the M7. I do like the Alfa Giulia, Lexus LC and the M4 but too pricey and they will depreciate too fast.
You would have to ask Trevor (007008) about pitfalls since he did this swap for me. He's done about a dozen M7 builds now.
Interior is still just like when it was dyed. He spent a ton of time on prep. He uses a special tape that only sticks when the surface is completely prepped for dye.
I also bought a steamer to remove the tint myself. Powdercoater has my wheels. He stripped the spare and went with a much lighter tint over the brushed aluminum. I'm hoping he will be done with all 5 by the end of the month since 2 publications are waiting to do features.

I think the touring was parked further from the building in that pic. I just use that location bc lighting is generally good and it's close to me. I need to find a new location for photos though.
Where'd that Touring end up going?
A guy in his late 70's-early 80's bought it purely for track use. It's been getting fully prepped. He emailed me a few months ago and also knows Jonny Lieberman so it might still end up on motor trend ignition.
Epic!
Some proper shots with the refinished wheels.
Well hot damn... Looking great!
Looking a lot better B.
Wow. congrats.... looks perfect to me. But like any car project it will never be complete. Great work.

Thanks! I hope your E34 is doing well!
She's still running well. Nothing needs to be changed now that the silhouette bodywork is on, but I feel the need for a revamp of the driveline, another new interior and some paint. I just can't leave things alone. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?

Great build! Are there any videos of the now completed car of the engine turned on with the hood opened, or of the exhaust sound?

Great build! Loved your E39 Touring build but this takes the cake! Love the interior dye job by the way! Not sure if I missed it, but who did that work?

Hello Guys
I have been around for a while with my E21 Baurs etc but strangely the first time I have jumped into this forum. I am glad I didnt see this a few days ago! I have my eye on a 2000 735il white on black 125K km and this build is $%^&* awesome!!
I cant bring myself to buy a modern 7 and just love the E38 and for the moment a just picked up a 2002 E46 330ci convertible 5 speed manual as the X3 bores me stupid. Once the X3 is sold I am going to buy another E38.
Rough idea of the total build cost? I had E39 M5 a couple of years ago which was a great car but this build is the ultimate Wolf....

I kind of went above and beyond and I am not going to post what I have in it. My engine alone was about $15k since it was freshly built. You could do a similar build with no interior work and a used motor, sans the supercharger for $15-20k all in I bet.
Another home run!
Ordered a smaller pulley and belt. My friend is going to cut the exhaust right before the mufflers and add V-bands. Then he will weld the other flange to a straight pipe and also add flanges to the stock pipes so I can install either whenever I want.
I installed the new smaller 92mm supercharger pulley and the new coolant reservoir. Noticeable increase in performance!
