Finally ready to post here.
2 months ago, I bought a one owner 38k original mile 2001 740i M sport in alpine white. It's down in Charlotte as Paul (blackknight530i) took the interior out so that Brian (Redshift) could dye all the tan caramel. Paul installed the modern BMW NBT retrofit which has the new nav, idrive and 10" touchscreen. He also installed black carpet and had a friend do a full paint correction.
I just paid a deposit to Peter Partee to build me a fresh S62. I bought an 81k mile 6 speed from Adam and Trevor will be doing the S62/6speed swap/ESS supercharger install and modifying Paul's rear subframe for the M5 diff. I hope to have the car back by Christmas.
I also already got the UUC DSSCR and short shifter, an Alpina front lip spoiler that I already had the logo removed from, Apex ARC-8's with some meaty tires and a used Brembo GT front BBK. Should be epic!
Just like your other two threads: IN!

Random question (that you might not be able to answer since you don't have the car right now): as an '01 does the rear have LATCH anchors?
You mean for child seat? It doesn't have them in the seat base. You have to use the belt and then the rear parcel shelf anchors.
Peter sent me a photo of the S62 core broken down ready to go to the machine shop. And I just bought an M5 diff from Adam
Are you getting new piston rings? How extensive is the rebuild?
I will get a full break down but yes, new rings and bearings etc. Just no machine work to the head.
What product did you use to spray the door panels and leather inserts?
Awesome build cant wait to see the results!
I am not doing the dye. I am not doing much of anything for the first time ever. My family is probably tired of my projects so I am letting the big/great 3 do the work and am paying them for their time/labor.

ah, the ultimate build. were you just bored of the wagon, and wanted to do one of these?
The wagon was just too "track" oriented to really enjoy. The E38 will be more refined and conservative. I will do E-cutouts so I can make it wild or mild with the push of a button.
You would need to try DD'ing it to understand.
Got more photos from Brian of the interior work. Paul installed the black kidneys, plate delete trim, M5 cluster, steering wheel and black dash. I ordered a ton of parts from Adam for the swap.
Going through the list of what's still needed. Here is the list of items already purchased/ordered. ESS kit will be ordered next week.
Engine/drivetrain:
Newly built stock 03 S62 with aluminum intake plenum
80k mile M5 6 speed
LUK stock clutch
20k mile flywheel OE
UUC DSSR with Evo short shifter and ZHP knob
M5 driveshaft with 50k miles and new CSB
M5 diff
750 axles
750 subframe
M5 radiator, shroud etc
M5 fuel pump
Most if not all misc hoses, reservoirs etc for the conversion
Suspension and brakes:
H&R II springs with OE sport struts at 38k miles
UUC front and rear sway bars
Brembo GT front BBK with 4 pot calipers and 2 piece 355x32 rotors
750 rear brakes with drilled rotors to match the front
Stainless brake lines
Exterior:
ECS black kidneys
OE Amber corners
New C pillar drip rail trim
Apex ARC-8 19x9.5/10 with Bridgestone Potenza tires
Full paint correction with rear badge delete
License plate delete trim strip
Interior:
NBT retrofit
M5 gauge cluster with white LED's
M5 steering wheel
Black upper dash
Black carpet
New OE floor mats
All sand interior dyed caramel
BSW stage 1 speakers
Monsoon rear deck upgrade
Seats starting to get dyed. I had the UUC dual sheer selector rod lengthened 15mm to accommodate for the E38. I also got an EVO short shifter and a ZHP weighted knob.
Trevor is supposed to start pulling the M62 and trans this weekend. The S62 is at the machine shop with work beginning this week.
Another cool project. Can't wait to see the final product
Thanks, Clay. I am more excited about this one than any prior. It's like my E34 V2.0 . This is the car I should have built after the E34.
E38 ///M7.....One of many cars BMW forgot to produce

Past- Arctic Silver E36 328is ///M3 Clone
Sold- Orient Blue E38 740i Sport ......
Traded- Dolphin Grey Audi B6 A4.......
Current- Steel Grey E46 ///M3 Vert
Trevor (007008) pulled the motor/trans.
It's not too late, and it doesn't have to be a track beast. Just sayin.
What?
