6 weeks is definitely doable. Get on it man. I think my entire build from start to finish was a bit under 12 weeks, working very slow and infrequently.

My problem is finding time to work on it. 50+hr work weeks, a house to take care of and a dozen other things always seems to devouring my free time. Im taking a few days off for turkey day, im planning on a big push to get this done.

I cleaned the block up and gave it a coat of hi-temp engine paint. in went the ARP2000 studs and the JE cut ring head gasket. I did a 2 step torque up to 70 ft/lbs and let it settle over night. I'll do the final step up to 85ft/lbs tonight. I borrowed my neighbors engine hoist so i can remove the lump in the engine bay and finish swapping over stuff to the S52 block. Hopefully that will happen tonight.

I'm at the point where i can't drag my heels on a clutch any longer, time to bite the bullet. I'm looking at south bend offerings, But i'm also curious to what else is available in the $1000 price range that will hold in the neighborhood of say, 600tq. It's got to have friendly street manners too. I don't mind a little more pedal effort, but no on/off style solid hub race clutches.

    - - - Updated - - -

UUC makes a segmented Kevlar clutch kit rated for 530tq, that will allow me to retain the stock DM FW. Several hundred dollars less than SB also...

Just dont go drag racing with the UUC kevlar. Or make more than the rated torque, which is at the crank. Dont drag race the regular SB either, but the SB ceramic can handle the strip and 730 lbs at the crank.

I loved loved loved my last Kevlar clutch. As long as they aren't slipping they will last forever.

This was 5 years ago and I was pissed off dealing with a crappy tuning company so I did a thing but this car had a Kevlar clutch that drove 100% like factory and held over 30,000 miles of this type of abuse.

I just got a deal on a very slightly used UUC twin disc organic clutch and . It's got a few hundred miles on it and still looks new, and it's pretty much the price of a new South Bend 5.

Progress is slow, but steady. My winter beater Frankenmotor M60b44 spit out the crank thrust washer last week. Amazingly the damage is repairable, but found out today im waiting for the correct size thrust washer, main bearing and bolts from the mother land. 7-10 days plus the holiday. Not what i needed right now, this is valuable turbo time being chewed up, its snowing, and driving my beater yoda p/u everyday gets old quick.

I got the Schrick's installed the other night. That was a little nerve racking and a bit if a pita, but slow and steady wins the race with that job. Im pretty sure its timed properly, but i need to double check since i did it off memory. Swapped a few little things over like the stewart water pump, Accessories and brackets ect... Found out i had the Evo underdrive pulley set on the S50 and never new it lol. There going on the turbo motor. Score!

The UUC twin disc showed up the other day. Looks good, not even really broken in yet. Very excited about this.

The answer is definitely one of the two. Im not sure which one yet.

Engine is timed. Vanos in. Parts are being installed, not removed. I have space on my work bench again. Im getting a warm feeling.

I took a few days off around Turkey day to make some head way with this project, and of course, i spent all but 1 of my 5 days off sick. EVERY time i take time off work, i'm either sick, injured or taking an unplanned trip to the ER. Just my luck. I cranked up the heat the the garage and went to work anyway. I didn't get as much done as planed, because sick, but still made some good progress.

    S50 LUMP OUT!

    My Lightweight Belhousing Mod:

Engine is in place. Now i just need to fab up exhaust, hook everything back up, and see what kind of gremlins i'm going to run into. Also got my 1/4 century old Century Mig welder up and running after some much needed maintenance. So Whats everyone running for exhaust? I'm going 3.5" all the way back, i'm looking for something reasonably quiet, and reasonably cheap.

Does no one else see a problem with the coolant line running right under the manifold and the oil drain???

For exhaust, I run a 3.5" magnaflow race muffler and a 3.5" borla xr1 rear muffler and its great. Quiet for a 3.5, nice tone, not raspy or much drone. No such thing as a quiet 3.5 though.

Coolant line is is the same place as the last time this kit was on a car (afaik). There's a little more room than the pic shows, but not much. Probably 1.5"-2" clearance around the manifold.

I'll probably end up shortening the drain line so it's a more direct route to the oil pan. It's easy enough to change after its up and running once i have it on a lift. I may have to buy a different fitting....

Any sound clips of your car Raji? I've been looking at the Borla XR1 mufflers. Also thinking about a vibrant quiet resonator. I'm not looking for stock noise levels, just something that's not overly loud and drawing unneeded attention.

I have built a few exhausts, the vibrant res and muffler are perfect imo.
