Winter Tires - lesser known options?

Cross post from X-series Forum - thanks folks for any insight / experience regarding these two tires.

Interested in input on lesser known winter tires, I drive a 2013 35i X5 and I'm ready to take off the RFT and put winter tires on this year. Most of our winter driving here in Michigan is local with daily commutes on back roads and city roads, so I am not sure I really want/need to pay for a more performance oriented Nokian, Blizzak LM-80, Conti Wintercontact SI, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with COOPER's Discoverer M+S Sport? V rated winter tire in 255/50/19 Seems like they are trying to cater to performance SUV, price point is right around $171 per tire atDiscount Tire. Any first hand knowledge?

My other thought is Yokohama IceGuard IG51V, Tire Rack has them for $157. T rated, but overall really well reviewed.

YES - I understand the notion in these forums of just "get the best" but curious if anyone else had been researching similar options as me.

    Thanks!

All winter tires are going to be better than an all season tire. Depending on the BMW I would opt for a tire like the Blizzak and have used them for years in Indiana and Michigan. The tiers are the only thing keeping you on the road in the winter. Bridgestone is starting a 70.00 mail in rebate so makes them a better option.
If I can help let me know.
