Exclamation Tranny limp mode solved by alternator replacement

I have a 1997 328i. Transmission in limp mode most of time for last few months. Shop checked and found alternator charging at 16V.
Claims that is causing transmission to go into safe mode. Sound right??

Hello guys, I have an interesting problem with my e90 - 2010 328i (rear wheel drive). The car initially starts in park but not neutral and revs very good but will not go into Reverse for around 30 seconds after start up. After this 30 seconds period the yellow cog display signalling transmission malfunction comes on the multi function display at which time reverse becomes selectable but the car will not rev past 1000 rpm in either park or neutral and power is reduced in drive but reverse is as strong as ever. also at this point it will start in neutral. This specific sequence happens all time of an initial start up
