    FlatBottom Steering Wheel Anyone?

    Hello guys and girls :-)

It's been some time since I last messaged you but now I think I have something you'll like

Please see what we are now working on and let me know what you think

So? Do you like it? Or maybe you want it?

    Take care

If I was sixteen and drove a modified Honda or an under-muffled WRX, I suppose I'd be all over something like this. In an E31? No way. It's not even a sports car, let alone a race car. Even if the wheel is well built and nicely wrapped, in my opinion it's just out of character for this vehicle.

I really like the leatherwork and upholstery I have seen from you guys, but I think you are targeting the wrong market for this particular product. We'll see what others say. I suspect you might have better luck aiming this at guys racing in the various E30 series or something like that.

    Cheers, John

Personally I couldn't agree more. E31 has always had a special place in my dream garage I used to have 2 E43s (525 and 540), now I have an E32 V8 that hasn't been driven for almost 3 years and I am working hard to restore it to OEM+ condition. And one of the first mods was replacing this:

    with this:

    What do you think?

Now coming back to the flat bottom steering wheel - we actually designed it having E36/E46 in mind and I decided to show it here because the steering wheel core is the same so will technically fit E31. And even though I would not put this kind of steering wheel into an E31, believe me, having worked in car accessories business for almost 10 years now, I know there is at least one person in the world that will to the most unbelievable thing to their car, be it a "modified Honda or an under-muffled WRX" or even a classic Bimmer...

So yeah, guys, please treat this rather as my show-off of how we are striving to fulfill customers' expectations than a suggestion on what you should do with your rides

    Take care

I'll be in the minority here, although neither 16 nor into modified Hondas...
I'd love to see what it looks like when it's done. Doesn't look like it's going to end up all that different from my Vector wheel (except for the flat bottom) - share the pics when it's done please...

I know. I am showing it only because it is the same steering wheel style. But when we receive order from a customer we always acquire the steering wheel core that comes from the same car model as the customer has so that the product that we provide guarantees fitment and safety.

We can do the side profiles but I'm afraid we won't be able to help with wooden inserts

I know you have it in your E36...you also have an E31 now? I've seen some that machine a later wheel to fit the old slipring. I know on your E36 you changed the whole steering column and stalks. Still waiting for the DIY

Personally, as a big fella, I love them. My view on any mod is that if it improves the car for you then go ahead with it.
I don't have much time for purist views on mods, see my LS3 engined E36 M3 for that.
I accept that some mods may lower the value of the car but you have to make a choice, is it a car to enjoy or an investment? You can't always have both.

    Of course

That was the factory wheel in my 328i. Love the design, but it's big. So changed to the smaller M airbag wheel.

Another thing to consider is that steering wheel with that type slipring did not come with MFL controls. Unless some very early one, but I have never seen one.

    This model.

    I kinda like this one:

Only thing that is awkward is that when turning the wheel it feels funny. With a racecar you turn the wheel 90 degrees to each side max and the flat bottom is not an issue.

We'll also be flatbottoming this type of steering wheel later on the way. But our version will have much longer flat bottom part and shortened bottom spoke.

I've seen versions with a longer flatter bottom, but I like this one. Even shorter bottom spoke...that'll be tiny.

I know many of you are waiting for some photos of completed BMW flatbottom steering wheel but why don't you have a look at two other wjeel that we recently completed:

    What do you think?

As for the BMW steering wheel - what is the color scheme you'd like to see it? Or maybe one of you wants to buy this first piece? We'll gladly wrap it for you

    Have a great weekend!

Well I'm a strict OEM guy. I would like to see a company machining newer model wheels, so the E36 slipring fits.

I'm not into loud color combo's or anything. I need the OEM E36 M3 wheel with the E90 M3 alu shift pedals for my SMG.

My original wheel is still mint and won't be touched.

Thank you for your opinion. To each their own, as they say

We used orange Nappa leather on 350Z steering wheel as those cars had orange leather upholstery available as factory option. But being a Bimmer guy myself I wouldn't also like such a loud scheme
