I put DEI fiberglass heat tape on about 8 years ago. Holding up well. Very thin so access is as good as it can be. I did one car with 2 inch tape and bought sheets for another car. Not a pretty as the fancy stuff in the pictures above.
DEI was one that I was looking at, I opted to go thinner with this stuff. It's more of a sound dampener I think but should reflect some heat. Dynamat is the name brand of it, guess we will see if it holds up! This did have the "Tar backing" though and I let it sit in the sun to get playable. All I know is the stock stuff thats in there turns to literally dust and I could not deal with it lol.

Making progress, switched HVAC to digital. Carpet is in along with the right pedals. Engine dropped in fairly easily, and what do ya know couple wires rigged up and it fired right up! E36 FTW! Shoutout to Volloso for the hookup on wiring it.

looks amazing man, I wish my under carrage was that clean. What happened to the 20lb sxe and stock motor? did you ever blow it up? im on 92/meth, 3.5" exhaust with the s366 at 11lbs right now enjoying that big laggy monster, wonder what ill end up blowing the motor with.
20lbs with the s257sxe got me to 510whp and 490wtrq. Turbo ran out of air but that was nothing I was not expecting. It was rated at 625 HP and pretty much did exactly that. Stock internals are known to be pushed into 600whp so once you graze that threshold, it's anyones guess on when she pops. I'll "attempt" a 600whp pull just for the size queen number then I'll set it to 525 whp and call it good. Motor seems nice and loose when turning it by hand so I have faith in it.
What is with the spacer on the motor mount?
WOT
To clear for a 4" intake. I just re drilled the bolt pattern on the block 1" lower than the orginals, welded 1"x 4" piece on the bottom to allow room for the lower bolts 1" lower. Made up the difference with a longer stud and aluminum spacer for the mount side.
Final product of the engine bay, things missing, oil cooler, and a decent catch can setup. That's all I will be adding to this. I'm happy with the end result. Excuse the front clip being black, came off my M3. This will be getting done when I paint the car.
Looking good

So I'm curious to ask, does anyone have the infamous rear valve cover leak? I've come to the conclusion that it's to much heat on the seal. It was fine for awhile, but now it's leaking again. I've noticed obvisouly it gets SUPER hot in that area. I'm going to try a turbo blanket + plus a stainless steel shield that attaches to the valve cover studs. If anyone else has any input or experience with this, I'd be grateful thanks!
I have never had an issue, I have like 30-40k turbo and 5 years on the same gasket

I have the same issue. I wonder if it has to do with crankcase pressure while in boost.
I for the life of me cannot get any of my VC to stop leaking... After switching from OBD2 to the OBD1 cover it's the worst it's ever been.
I've been told that OE BMW gasket is the only way to make it not leak... I"m not hopeful but I did go ahead and purchase an OEM BMW gasket kit and will be moving back to OBD2 cover as well.
just rtv the whole cover haha. at least it won’t leak then.

Bahaha, whole thing was RTV already because I've had bad luck. Just a super thin bead (correct way) around it all. I'm also debating that it's a venting issue aswell. I'll report back after I use another NEW gasket, more RTV lol and a proper dual vent, (first vent from OE) second vent I'll try to figure out some kind of baffle setup plus big catch can. I'll also be adding heat shielding inbetween manifold + valve cover seal.
/e my only gripe with the oil leak is that it drips on my manifold causing it to smoke like a mofo, then everyone thinks my car is a POS. Also, It's always combined with me driving like an idiot then letting it idle to cool down after a hard run.

Okay okay okay guys get ready to drink the HATORADE. 100% stock bottom end 180k miles on the engine. "Wow its laggy" etc posts not be needed I'm at 15psi @ 3700, Yes not the best I KNOW. It does not SEEM laggy to me, I can't run a crazy aggresive map. 93 pumparoo gas, SO I CAN GO ANYWHERE WOOOO. Car runs insanely good. APPARENTLY 575 wtrq is safe nowadays lolol! Thanks to everyone who has shared knowledge on this forum! Can't thank everyone enough!!!!
/e I'm not sure whats happening at the end, car redlines at 7k on the tach, I told the guy to pin it till she bounces off the limiter, maybe I was spinning maybe he let out IDK. Just imagine it keeps that power till limit, because it does. At least I'm not afraid to putup my backwoods E36 build dyno lol.

Why only 6,500 rpms?

looks awesome, where did you dyno?
Congrats. Very good numbers for pump gas and a s362.
