    ZCS Zeko incompatibility issues

    Dear all,

Although I have been 'lurking' for a while on the edges of this forum I only relatively recently joined. One of my current projects is conversion of my E39 540i Sport to a manual transmission. As it is an Australian spec Sport it has all the usual stuff including the body kit, M suspension, and the 3.15 diff ratio. Got all of the mechanical stuff including an E60 shifter - wiring is no issue - coding will be done via Autologic as a friend owns a BMW workshop here in Melbourne and they use Autologic.

I have obtained two copies of the BMW decoder 3/4 and Zeko - bought one - downloaded one from here. The BMW decoder programs run just fine on both my Mac using Wine and XQuartz to interface with the Mac, or on a PC I have access to. No problem there at all. As a result I have a recalculated SA after deleting S202 - Steptronic.

    So far - so good.

Now the not-so-good bit. I need recalculated GM and VNs to go with the updated SA but I cannot get either copy of Zeko (both 4.2a) to run no matter what I do. I have tried to run Zeko on my Mac using the same program that happily runs BMW decoder 3 and 4 - no luck. I have tried installing it on a PC I have access to and it tells me the version of the program I have 'is not supported on this machine - please contact the provider'. Can anyone tell me what the operating system requirements on a PC are for Zeko?

    Thanks hugely,

    Andrea

I believe it has to be a 32-bit Windows, XP most likely.

Post your original ZCS and we may be able to give you the new one for manual.

    Hi 328,

I just downloaded WinonX to see if that would run it - still no joy. Extremely irritating! If someone is happy to calculate new codes, here goes:

GM: 5B621010H (I suspect this will be 5B521010 for a manual - but have no way to confirm or to calculate the check digit obviously)
SA: 200B8C904DF045A4N (BMW decoder 4 and 3 both give me 200A8C904DF045A4 M for a manual)
    VN: 10100000830

I'll keep plugging away at getting ZCS Zeko to work, but I am running out of options.

    Thanks,

    Andrea

    I agree with the above

    5B521010 E
    200A8C904DF045A4 M
    1010000083 0

    Checksums are correct.

    Hi 328,

Brilliant! Thank-you very much for the confirmation. I had to base the GM on a 'best guess' having seen the outcome of other late E39 coding changes, and noting that the only thing that changed was the third digit to correspond with the vehicle type - i.e. 5B6 for DN62 and 5B5 for DN52 - I saw the same pattern repeated for Tourings and USA sedans (obviously to reflect the vehicle type for each). There was no way for me to confirm the check digit though.

On a slightly different note. Reading the forums I have seen quite a few people have issues fitting 3.15 differentials to their cars and subsequently have problems with cruise control and wondering if anyone had done a conversion on a car factory fitted with the 3.15 ratio. We'll see how this turns out on mine. When you decoded my SA you will have seen that it is fitted with S204 - short final drive ratio - and I suspect people fitting 3.15 differentials will need to recode their IKE and ABS/DSC to include S204, so that the DME engine revolution count matches the S204 recoded IKE and ABS/DSC. Once we have finished the car I will put the results up here - hopefully that is solution to the problem others have been having (I know some have written lines of code for the DME, but this would hopefully be simpler).

I managed to get ZCS Zeko to open last night by running Win XP Professional on a virtual machine on my Mac, but the function keys wouldn't work because I had to 'quarantine' Windows (no virus protection for Windows otherwise) - I will try again once Norton arrives next week.

Sorry to revive an old thread. Could any of you guys calculate GM, SA and VN for me? An idiot replaced the IKE on my buddy's E46 325i coupe and erased those from the car. Luckily didn't do any funky stuff besides that. The car runs but the donor vehicle KMB has the wrong VIN and FA, and the FA is gone from the car. I asume anybody calculating that would need whole chassis and vin decode and what else?
    Thanks in advance.

E46 could have had a ZCS or FA depending on year, and you're using both terms interchangeably so it's hard to say what you need.

For anyone still trying to run zeko in newer OS's, it seems to run fine with NTVDMx64: http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/ntvdmx64.html

I think Im having issues with the key. Every time I hit Back its an error. Might have accidentally hit process car with my fat fingers. Any help would be appreciated.
