Okay, this is slightly off topic but... Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Last week, I was out meandering down Greenway Parkway, a major east-west street in Phoenix, in my 2005 Prius. “Hmmmmmmmmmm,” it hummed quietly.

Then all of a sudden “BRRRRAAAAPPPPPP” - a kid in a mid-2000s Mazdaspeed 3 hatchback blows past me, glasspack muffler doing its obnoxious thing in the loudest possible way.

Hey, I was only going 5 under the speed limit! What’s your problem, dude?!?!

As the black hatch disappeared, I slowly (of course) plotted my revenge. Maintaining my mature but pissed-off cool, I accelerated… to the speed limit… and beyond. Yes! I’m speeding! In a Prius! +5 over speed limit! What an odd experience! “Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!”

My mighty hybrid steed passes 19th Ave. Then 7th Ave. Wait? What’s that? The kid in his loser-mobile is caught up in traffic. YES! My moment is arriving! The proud Prius maintains its slightly illegal velocity as I weave in and out of traffic, maneuvering far more deftly than the inexperienced youth in his infernally noisy rust-bucket.

And then — yes yes YES - approaching 7th St., he’s stuck behind several cars and I make my move. Soon the sad little hatch-boy was beside me… and then behind me. “Take that, you punk!” I think to myself, stomping on the accelerator to rub his child-like nose into his utter humiliation. “Hmmmmmmmmmm!” hummed the Prius, savoring the sweet, sweet victory.

The moral of the story: Just because I'm not in my Ultimate Driving Machine doesn't mean I'm putting up with anything.

I blow by people going below the speed limit during normal driving conditions.
Speed limits are so low that anyone who is going below them is going painfully slow.
I give them a little open dump wastegate, and wake them from their trance..
