I have a 2011 X3 and the pad or cover is coming off the glove box. Does this mean I need to replace the cover or can I reglue successfully and get it to stay? Is replacing difficult? I see new one's are in the $250 range.
You could try to reglue but the piece might be warped
Mine is doing the same thing...since I got mine used, I assumed the previous owner had done something stupid to the glovebox door. Wondering what to do about it
Current: 2011 X3 35i M-Sport, Deep Sea Blue Metallic, Oyster Napa interior, Afe intake, RaceChip Ultimate.
Past: 1998 M3 sedan, Cosmos Schwartz Metallic, Black interior, Euro 6-speed, AA Stage II TwinScrew supercharger, and a bunch of other mods.
Had the same problem, tried to glue it, but didn't work. Used high strength epoxy and didn't hold after leaving clamped for longer than recommended time. This appears to be one of the items that dealers make money off of. Along with the LEDs in the rear. My 2011, had now had 2 different LED taillights go out.
Common problem. BMW sells just the door as this is a known issue
if your in warranty get it replaced. If your out of new car warranty then it's not that expensive
Gorilla Glue (the expanding kind). but dont use too much or it will bulge the areas where you dont have a clamp in place. I know from personal Experience.
I callled the dealer for a customer and they stocked the part, that tells you they are failing fairly regularly
$275.00 list I think
I replaced mine myself, it wasn't too hard. Is a shame there isn't an easier fix that looks good...none of the glue jobs I have seen look good and/or lasted more than a few months. Hope they fixed the problem on the replacement door.
SO... contact cement or Gorilla Glue? What's the consensus? I have the same issue. Don't want to spend $275.
Sorry to bring this post back after a few months hiatus, but I am new to this group and will be picking up my new (to me) 2011 X3 this week. It has a glove box that is ever so slightly beginning to delaminate. It's only a matter of time before it gets bad and will drive me crazy. My main question is this...
Was this just an issue in the early years of the F25? If so, what year did it seem to get resolved? Would I be able to find a 2016 in a junk yard somewhere, for example, and use its glove box without worrying about it also becoming an issue, or should I just go to the dealer and cough up the money? I'm not going to even attempt the whole glue method. I'd rather just cough up the $300 right off the bat and be done with it… or get one from a junk yard if it will work. Thanks.
Evidently, it has not yet been addressed by BMW,as I am experiening the same problem with my 2015 X3....I took mine to a local auto upolstery shop, and the owner there, who is very experienced, thought he could fix it. He glued it back, using several clamps overnight. It lasted about a week in our Georgia heat. It's not as bad as it was, but still noticable, and obviously, it was one month out of warranty when we noticed it, so our Dealer was no help. I hate to spend $275, but it looks like that's the only fix. Think I'll wit until it's time to sell or trade..
