Hello everybody,
Over the past months I have done an engine swap on my first ever car: swapping my E36 316i to a 318is (m42b18).
Although the car starts up nicely, after about 15 seconds the idle drop to about 400 rpm, it runs rough and if I press the gas pedal it stalls. Currently I really have no idea what this could be because this is what I have tried so far:
- Cleaning the ICV (also swapped it for another one which I cleaned too, no dice)
- unplugged the MAF (this made the car idle higher, but it still displayed the same symptoms)
- Had a friendly garage perform a smoke test (no significant leaks were found)
- installed a new PCV
- new NGK plugs
- measured the plug wires, all at 5K Ohms
- swapped the ignition coil for the one from my m43b16
- swapped the crank- and camsensors
- installed a new fuel pump (fuel filter is about 6 months old)
- swapped the DME for the one from my m43b16
- swapped the TPS for the one from my m43b16
- the o2 sensor is new
Since the car is European I can't perform a stomp test and a Snap-On scanner I borrowed couldn't communicate with the car (even though it has done so succesfully before the engine swap, which is why I swapped DMEs, but this made no difference)
I'm completely stuck and since this is my only car I would really like to get it back on the road, so the tremendous expertise of this forum is very welcome.
Here is a video of the car's behavior: https://youtu.be/mO8FhWX9nY8
It idles fine at first and responds to the throttle well (@ 0:19), then at 1:02 it starts to idle rough and hesitate when I press the gas.
Thank you all so much in advance!
Kind regards,
Toine
