I am considering them, but for the silver one. I don't think install would be that bad though, because the DP (Sec 1) disconnects from the main collector there and really shortens it up. It wont be for awhile, theres some other areas that need attention. I did see they have a set out to a guy with an S54 E36 though...If I didn't already have a standard header tune, I would consider those for the E36...You should definitely look into them. I read the who thread and apparently they're +20ish over the SSvV1's. If you're paying for franks tune...he the man for the ARH's too.
When I dropped the motor in, I had the headers attached, but with new studs and hardware, I don't think it would be too bad of a job. Did you get the N54 studs?
yeah i used N54... with stock manifolds so far...

man i have been lagging on this lately... between work, children and life... not much time.. although i do have an update:
received my 200 cell spun metalic 2.5" catsn today... going tp put them into my E46 stock section 1 where the resonater sits.
i also followed Gpetersons idea of mounting the accelerometer by modifiying the baseplate instead of cutting the mount and re-welding it to the floor pan. I made a similar mount that gpeterson made
STILL waiting on Status Gruppe headers ... i want to put them on before i drop the engine in..
I also got new parts for the transmission, the pivot pin(metal from an E31) new fork and bearing.
pics to come, ill post a pic from my phone to show a lil bling.

Well when the time comes, I may have to get one. What are you doing for DME tuning?A buddy of mine sent me 2 DMEs for editing. One was for a swap, E36 / S54. I successfully edited the thing and tested it in my car. Worked perfect! I can show you how if you're interested?

I can help with that forsure. In the diagnostic section, I've asked for help on a few things. Check those out as they're common start up issues. Once it's running, it's an awesome setup.
Small update, using Gpeterson's idea, I got the accelerator mounted.

Nice - feel like measuring the length of the primaries to the collector for me!?
im getting a dyno baseline tomorrow morning.
sure will do!

stupid question, but i'll be using a soft tape measure... do you want me to measure with the tape ON TOP of each primary or on the side of the primary tube? not sure it will be different but just asking

I had that issue too on the oem ones. I got 12.X at the sides and 13.X at the tops (outer most) part of the tube. Either is fine, or both haha. They should be equal length so 1 primary is fine. I don't want you to be there all day on each one. This is just a project I'm trying.

Update: got the motor in!!!! Was a beeotch, had to do it alone, the headers where keeping it from being super easy, so there was a lot of getting under the carwith a jack to maintain the rear level and the front with the hoist. I had to remove the load leveler because it was hitting the rear upper firewall. So I had the hoist attached to the front point which made super easy but the engine was a little too rotated towards the passenger side so I used the rear jack to help it rotate over so it would sit on the motor mount bolts better.
so now it's onto the wiring. My engine came from an SMG car and thus has an SMG trans harness. I managed today to get a 6MT trans harness off eBay for $99, cheap enough so I got it and will save myself some time with wiring and stripping it.

Update, doing some work on the exhaust, decided to shorten the E46 M3 section 2. Removed the small cross flow box chamber muffler. Working on making a Euro section 1 with 200 cell cats.

So you're running an e46 section 1&2 mated to an e36 muffler section? Just beginning an s54 e36 swap myself. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me often!
Nice im making a sec 1 jig right now. Grab some mild steel and a few exhaust clamps, clamp the pipe in a few spots then weld the steel from clamp to clamp. Then you can build a while new one or cut parts and add cats without changing length etc.
trans harness squared away?
