It's even easier than this. You don't have to remove steering shaft, pump or intake.
All you have to do is disconnect all of the wiring, clutch line if you have it, exhaust from the header. Then you connect one side of leveler to exhaust manifold and another to the eye hook near the VANOS solenoid and out it out completely assembled.

what lower radiator hose are you guys using? E36 or E46? The e36 seems to interfere with the e36 a/c pulley, engine is still on the stand so I'm going by what I see there

No AC compressor, but using E36 lower rad hose cut shorter at thermostat housing.
Also so have the E36 compressor bracket bolted on the the car waiting for my decision on AC
k. i have the E36 A/C bracket on and placed the A/C compressor on.. i had to flip the VANOS accumulator bracket upside down and cut off the ear tab on the bottom, but it works great and the heat sheild from the Euro E36 arm forms a nice protection from the headers. i uses the 2 bosses on the block just behind the A/C bracket to mount the accumulator, and then put my Bimmerworld VANOS line on.
currently just waiting for the Z3M harness to arrive on 5/17 from BMW of South Atlanta, and i dont have an ETA on the harness from Andrew but that order was placed on friday too..
Found a complete intake (upper air fitler box, MAF and intake elbow) on ebay, fuel pressure regulator
Now i just need a DME, front O2 sensors, fuel pump, E46 Section 1,2. then some various parts like new Power steering line, detent shift pin kit, few shifter replacement pieces, and the E36 Euro expansion tank.
Should i just keep the Mishimoto E36 M3 expansion tank? or do the Euro one?

Just curious, from E46 M3? I happened to score a mz3 S54 airbox, was going to use E46 M3 elbow but it didn't fit well, ended up ordering a z3m elbow.
Not sure what the plumbing looks like from the S54 to that tank. I used to E46 tank and adapted the bracket primarily because I needed the SAP (I'm fully CA legal).
I've seen a lot of swaps that don't have the heat shield above the headers... my motor didn't come with one but I added it later as it looked like the line from the coolant hard line to expansion tank (some gates part # recommend elsewhere) was getting cooked by exhaust heat.
S54 swap DME flashing - $100
S54 swap CAN interface board (for proper A/C & check engine light) - $275
e36 SAP sim/secondary air pump simulator: $75 - standard or $170 - plug & play
e36 post-cat O2 sims: $115 shipped, plug & play
from an E46 M3.. i kinda new the elbow wouldnt fit but i bought it mainly for the MAF
any tips on removing the throttle arm and cable from inside the car? i got the pedal off the arm, i removed 3 13mm nuts from around the arm holder.. what am i missing?

i just did this today, i removed the clip, slid the pedal off. i left those 3 nuts you mentioned alone. the throttle cable, there is a clip u have to push to release it from the firewall, it comes out from the engine bay
Got 3 packages today,
Z3M harness
S54 fuel pressure regulator and filter
S54 intake elbow, MAF, TOP of intake box
andrew sent me an email that my conversion harness should be ready by next week

K quick question that I have not seen addressed
for the fuel supply, from the FPR to the supply hardline on the block, what supply hose do we use?
e46 M3 16122229410
Z3 M. 16122229767
or
e36 M3 16121182860
not sure what to use

It'sThe E 46 M3 push lock line. It goes from the fuel pressure regulator to the hard-line that's bolted to the block
- - - Updated - - -
That's what I used anyway, no issues… It is a little long, so if the z3m one is shorter maybe that's a better solution

anyone know what size tap or thread chaser i need for the engine motor arm mounts? theres 2 holes on my block that need it really bad
Edit: found it, took the bolt with me to ACE Hardware.. its a 8M x1.25, ace didnt have the tap but O'Reilly's did. worked out great.. holes chased and cleaned, got the driver side mount on today, going to do the harness and the fuel pressure reg this week, as well as pressure wash the engine bay.
I also took a chance on some Manzo headers..reason being is that my stock manifolds/cats had some pieces of the cat falling out of them, just little bits, but F-that, gives me a reason to change them. i know that the O2 bungs are not in ideal places.. so while the motor is on the stand, im going to mount them and do any fab work to the bungs thats needed.
I also picked up a section 1, going to eliminate the resonator, put in 2 spun Catalytic converters in there and make my own euro section 1 since people are wanting $500 for 100k mile euro cats, things are practically almost dead by that time.

Question:
I see certain people on other forums removing their factory oil cooler and going AN lines, and an aftermarket cooler, but are using an inline thermostat...
now i know there is an internal thermostat in the S54 oil filter housing, are people removing those and putting an aftermarket one inline for this reason? Im doing the AN-10 lines and a 13 row cooler but i dont see the need for an inline thermostat.. any input on this?

I believe the diverter is also the t stat. With out it, the oil is alwsys being cooled and will run too cool. You need the inline t stat to get oil to temp, but once it's there it will all go through the cooler for regulation

Btw I like my derale fluid cooler w -10an attachments

Oil pressures look fine with it

Oh sorry, no you don't need the inline t stat if you're not messing with the OFH diverter. I though you were getting the piece to push all the oil through the cooler.
My OFH is stock, mishimoto -An adapter, 10-an SS lines, derale cooler. Works fine car holds 205 degrees normally and fluctuates alittle with driving, depending how hard.
FYI to everyone
the Z3M driver side engine arm mount is now NLA according to BMW, just got an email fromTurnermotorsport. It was on backorder since November last year, and now it's NLA

On a side note and UPDATE:
finished doing the shift dent pins, that reverse and 5th gear is a BASTARD!!!. I fact I skipped doing the reverse because it was such a bitch doing the 5th trying to get that bushing out.
As soon and my Status Gruppe headers arrive next week, I'll be ready to drop the motor in. The harnesses are all in, just need to send out my DME to TTFS to get their tune on it.
also, anyone me know of or have a link on what I can get rid of on the trans harness? The trans harness is from the SMG and I wanted to clean it up a bit from things it doesn't need.

Hey you can DL msstuner and disable most of the stuff for the swap, I believe*
It worth looking into, to spend $35 vs ttfs cost. Unless you're getting a performance tune then you'll need them.
Last edited by PITT M3 RR; 06-16-2017 at 05:14 PM.
I can also send you a screen shot of my code in msstuner.
what is your DME series #?
Ahh ok I see I see, nice option. Ive been looking at them for a set of those AR Headers and their tuning...could be a massive power boost. I have a header tune right now BUT no headers haha I got scammed when I was doing my build and didn't want to wait for another set. Did you see the AR headers yet?
yeah those are beastly!.. but i would HATE to put them on while the motor is in the chasis.. looks like a "from underneath" job, but you would a lift for the tilt angle to slide up and in.. look awesome though.. are you considering them? might have to re-do the entire exhaust system..
