yep did that.. i used a scotch bright pad on all grounds to get bare metal.

I just finally was able to download the TTFS software, used my cable, read the DME and just sent that over to Frank Smith. I sure hope something is found in that.. if not im leaning towards something wrong in the swap harness.. Its really hard to tell what wire is what, considering Andrew uses ALL black wiring for every damn wire.. impossible to tell if every wire is correct.

So what we know is, i have fuel, air, DME can be read so it has power, NO SPARK...
changed the Crank position sensor, no change.
Pulled apart all 3 harnesses and rechecked connections, no change
Removed all grounds, made sure all have good contact, used scotch bright pad to get bare metal, no change
Re-checked all positive wires to make sure correct, and all have good contact, no change
checked black wire to the starter 30h terminal, no change

kind of at a loss what to do...
also im having issues with the INPA download, wont work on my XP laptop, keeps saying "not a valid WIN32" tried on my 1yr old windows 10 laptop... i freaking hate windows 10, its downloads are odd, coming form a google sourced... for some reason i cant even start at the "prerequisits"

if anyone wants to take a trip to UT and figure this shit out... im paying lol..

yeah not really surprised.. oh well, at least everything has now been quadruple checked as far as wiring goes.. once this is resolved i'll cross my fingers that i got all the VANOS stuff right. I also need to break in the new piston rings properly too, so once it fires, i'll call it good, put everything back together, then do the break in procedure for the rings, which is city driving, accelerating and decelerating with down shifting for 30min..

My DME has been throwing a code 66 since the swap and it has absolutely NO effect on starting or running. I need to have my bin file updated but so far it's causing no issues.

MPWRCPE is correct - deleting EWS and suppressing that code are two different things. 14 and 43 should be suppressed for swaps as well unless you are running the radiator hose temp sender and DMTL like me.

k so... i get the file sent to me from Frank, at about 1pm yesterday. I told him im at work and wont be able to do it until i get home around 7. I get to it about 8, he sends me an email that says:

"Let me know if you get a DME unregistered. If so please collect the license again and send, I will send you an additional Key. If this happens be the case, you will need both Keys in the folder where Protuner was installed"

ok so i try it, and sure enough i get the DME unregistered... i do another license on his software like he asks, send it over... i get no response from last night so i pack it up... get to work today and the following response:

"David, use this link to download the software to flash
    http://bimmersoftware.com/bmwflash

    thanks"

so send him another response... saying what happened to the key you were going to send me... and i dont know what this new software is, or how to do it...

Keep in mind, i had previously shipped my DME to him to do the tune, as requested, he sent it back supposedly with the new swap tune installed. So whats this new BMWflash software?? is this going to have the parameters i asked for in the tune? Im not computer savvy so this is all just odd to me, seems to me im getting the push off and i dont know why

So he shoots me back another response after i told him i dont get whats going on and asking why his TTFS software wont work to flash this.. he responds:
"Its the same software as mine but doesnt require a license, its just easier"

    .... ok... thoughts?

Frank is a busy guy, he's not pushing you off. He was more than responsive when setting up my car and the results are fantastic. There are a few small things that were missed in the bin file but keep in mind Frank is not a 'swap' expert. He is a fantastic tuner.

If you're having bin file/coding issues contact Garry (GPeterson), he is really good with the swap coding and helped me get mine squared away.

The BMWFlash software is what you'll use to do partial reads so you can get the bin file sorted. This leaves the tune intact. You can also use it to flash Franks tune.

Frank will have you data log and update your tune through his ProTuner software, at least that's how mine was done.

    Have no worries.

To anyone with a suspected EWS non-start issue - you can do a partial read using BMWFlash (http://bimmersoftware.com/bmwflash) then open it up using MSS5x Binary Modification & Remap Tool (http://www.ecuworx.co.uk/uploads/MSS...ol_V1.5.3D.exe) to see if EWS was deleted. BMWFlash is free for personal use and MSS5x Binary Modification & Remap Tool is free for read-only.

I also do swap flashes (not tunes) for $100.

    gpeterson,

so in theory he did a "performance" tune for my car, because of headers and such... but looks like he forgot to delete things related to the swap.. are you able to do this remotely or do you need my physical DME to do it? also will this delete the performance tune that is supposed to be on the file?

i just wanna get my car to run... damn it .. lol

I can do it remotely and it will not affect the tune.

I'm not familiar with the TTFS software, but yes, you could do a partial read with BMWFlash and email the file.
