Considering how insanely rare the M Coupes are, it makes sense that the pricing is skyrocketing for select vehicles.
The E30 M3 is much less rare, and yet the pricing on those cars is insane.
Expect the S54 M Coupes to price themselves into a differnet market, pulling the S52 Coupes along with them.
The roadsters will follow at a distance.
I can't even find a decent non-m coupe for anything slightly rational. I sold mine for 7K and it was the cheapest coupe in the country with a clean title. Granted I also went through everything and it was a solid buy at the time, but the poor buyer lost a coil pack on the drive home. Not something I could have predicted, but it was at 168k when it left.
What gets me is how much hate there is on BAT for M Coupes. Its always negetive, yet they are selling 4 cylinder honda shitboxes for 50k and that's just fine.
White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.
I like Coupes.
I'm perplexed as well. It's also a very strange time with the pandemic and I think boredom is playing a role. I could barely get $7k for my nice '96 EB Bronco back in 2016. There's a crusty-undercarriage (he even painted over the bushings) '93 out of Ohio right now sitting at $27k. Go figure.
I certainly overpaid for my Z3 Coupe, but it had just about every part and mod done to it that I would have eventually done myself, for probably double the cost. Resale though, I'm screwed.

Kind of curious about the M5 wagon selling today. Does a Getrag 280 5-speed have a direct drive top gear or is it an overdrive?

Sure thing Brent... now that Ive texted you maybe you can stop calling my fabrics vaporware!
Ive always had this idea for a peach-ish kinda color roadster (or my 72 bavaria)... I can see the color in my head just dont know a color code offhand. With my green M Tech. White wall tires... style 5's? Something like that. Beach cruiser kind of vibe...

Low mileage but crusty evergreen M Roadster sold for $15,750 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...m-roadster-67/
Thanks for the updates guys. Seems like roadsters are climbing back in value.
Reading thru this thread has been very interesting!
I purchased my 01 Z3 2.5 roadster back at the end of April - it had > 31K miles on the clock no major flaws, M54 + auto trans, new Pilot Sport a/s3+ tires, and a flawless loaded interior. Before getting it shipped up to Minnesota it lived in rural/suburban Georgia all it's life. 1st owner for 17 years 2nd owner for about 1.5 years/ 2k miles and came with a decent amount of records.
It does have the OG cooling system - but that was no Surprise given the low mileage.
I had watched BAT/ebay/other .com sites since my purchase wondering how the market for these has been. Clearly the prices have been inching up, especially when the lower mileage examples pop up.
This recent 02 example didn't meet reserve at over 15K!

So I guess in the end I'm saying that for the $10.5K I paid - I feel pretty confident that I didn't overspend <too much >
I do love to drive this thing!

Boy, there are two S54 M Coupes on BAT at the moment and they are each <10 miles from me. I've never seen either one on the road.
