Is it? I thought it was just part of the luxury option on the M5's and that pretty much all Caramel interiors had extended leather. I've seen several M5s with luxury interior with extended leather, but didn't realize it was all that rare. I certainly like it a lot. I've got a couple replacement front door cards I picked up from Adam a few weeks ago to install to replace the ones on the car that are a bit tired. The driver door card on my car is not staying under the shadowline trim as it's supposed to due to leather shrinkage I think. We cleaned up the new cards, but left the ones in the car as-is, so they aren't perfect in the pics. I'm probably going to get my buddy Brian to redye them before I install them so that they look a bit more like new. Mostly it's just the armrests that look a bit shiny.

Most of the M5s i see have the vinyl interior. I think they should all have the extended leather. Looks so much better IMO. I put a black leather dash in my E38 and its so nice on the eyes...

I agree, the extended leather is so nice and is very befitting of the exclusivity of the M5. As for the E38, my other friend who does leather repair actually said the e38 "leather" dash is not actually leather. This is why it doesn't have the same issues the e39s did with shrinkage/tearing. The "leather" on the e38 is actually vinyl with a leather-like texture. Sucks to hear that, I know, but at least it can be more durable, so there's that.

Extended leather is really nice, but it never ages well here in Phoenix, especially without a garage. So I’ll likely stick to vinyl for it’s durability.

It’s pretty rad how the 530i became a full M5, definitely an interesting story. Most would say to just buy an M5, but your DIY M5 looks better than a lot of real M5’s.

Yeah, if I didn't keep the car in the garage all the time when not driving it, I probably would have just kept the vinyl, but I don't have that problem .

Thanks, it's really been such a cool car and I've loved it in every form over the 175k miles or so that I've owned it. This is ultimately what I wanted from the beginning, but it's been such a rewarding experience over the many years and my wagon benefitted as well, so I'm not worried about how much money, time and effort went into it.

    Love the car !
How are the Ground Control coil-overs riding ?
What spring rates do they have ?
    Thanks!

I feel like you've asked me that before. They're a bit stiff over small concurrent bumps, but stick to the ground like nothing else. Smooth type roads are excellent and even slightly bumpy roads aren't bad. Overall, they are a very good compromise between control and ride comfort. I could probably tweak it a bit more to make it a bit more comfortable, but I'm good for now. Not in a hurry to pull the interior out right now.

I can't remember the spring rates exactly. I'm sure I've mentioned them before in this thread.

It's finally there and they did an incredible job. The car is finally a M5 in every sense of the word, other than a WBS VIN number. It sounds, performs and looks every bit M5. I still need to put the door badges on, but I'm not worried about that so much. We took a few pics after all was said and done:

and my buddies Steve (left) and Jeff (right). I can't thank them enough for doing such an amazing job on the car.

    Wow Paul,

Don't worry, won't be much more to do on it for a while. It will likely stay as it is for the foreseeable future. Only plans I have are to swap the front door cards with some better ones I got from Adam a few weeks ago and put new Alcantara on the sunroof shade. I've got a replacement sunroof cassette that I could install, but I've not been in a hurry to do that. Sunroof works, but rear sits a bit lower than it's supposed to when closed. I kept saying I was going to just replace the whole cassette with all good parts, but that's a lot of work and might end up breaking parts in the process like I have every time I've taken the sunroof apart, LOL. Might put some more work into the wagon soon, but really need to either do an engine swap or full paint job to do anything significant to it. Mechanically it's running and driving great, so no hurry. If I make it nice looking, I will worry about throwing crap in it.

Your car and your work are a major inspiration for my S62-swapped E39. I gave up on finding decent condition extended leather door cards (heck, I'd be happy finding standard vinyl door cards in good condition at this point) but I basically have a similar path-to-goal as you undertook. Glad to see it's looking so fantastic!

Bummer... mine is from a 96 and took some modification to get the A pillars with airbags to fit properly... Has some leather type wear to it in some spots, but im not leather expert... Still love the look and feel...

You can adjust the height of the sunroof glass with the screws that hold the glass to the rail behind the rubber accordions, IIRC.

It's not the adjustment, it's broken parts. I know about the adjustment screws very well after taking these sunroofs apart about 8 times or more.
