Just picked up a new (used) cat to hopefully clear a code, and a 3.45 LSD to rebuild possibly for next year.
1998 Z3 1.9L Dinan Stage 3.
Just grabbed a pair of Euro M3 E36 oem BMW exhaust headers. Don't know if I'll install yet. Working on what else would be needed. Do I go complete Euro Super Sprint exhaust, with cat delete and complete SS mid pipe and rear exhaust for the MZ3? The other side issue is the car is a Dinan SC specimen and what other issues do I need to consider. Larger MAF? BBTB if so Dinan or Riot Racing? Software/tune? M50 Intake? None of the above? Currently don't have to do smog tests, but the requirement is only 30 miles away. Either CARB or Reno, NV urban location. Other???????
Headers can go straight on the car without messing too much in the tune (depending on SAP needs).
A larger maf is only necessary IF you are maxing yours out, and yours has a resistor as part of the DINAN SC kit scaling the signal down. A larger maf would need a complete retune from scratch, it would get messy.
BBTB will not do much for you... a different size SC pulley will.

Thanks, you've been very helpful. I've read that e46 M cars without cats, have a rather stinky exhaust smell. Is it the same for e36 M cars? That would be something I'd need to consider when planning for exhaust systems. Especially in a roadster when you get to smell everything. Dennis

I had paint over spray on my windows inside and out, mostly from the first paint shop. Anyway I used 0000 steel wool and now my glass is clear again. I even used it on the inside on the tinted window. I thought for sure it was going to scratch the hell out of the tint, but only a little here and there. It was either that or replacing the tint.
Race version.
Will it be better than Eisenmann I have no idea but hey, let's try!

Bought some replica AC Schnitzer flippers and a 3 piece spoiler for Jezebel. Gathering up parts and pieces for her at a steady clip. God, I love these things.

I bought my M a tow vehicle since I can't hardly fit anything in it for road trips to car events out of state that I go to. So here she is...
a 2007 VW Touareg V10 TDI. Has a nice 5.0 litr V10 Twin Turbo Diesel engine to pull the M with.

Nice vehicle!
Although I do hope it comes with a VCDS cable, as I hear those can be quite a handful when stuff goes wrong.

I do all my own work on my cars so that will help with costs on maintenance. I was on clubtouareg just joined clubtdi, thanks.
There is a VW/BMW shop near me that the owner is EXTREMELY Knowledgeable about all German cars. That's really the only place I would trust taking my BMW or VW to.
I had this custom made from RedLineGoods and they just finished it. Ships today!

A new battery. On Tuesday, the car turned over a little slow. Still started fine, but I knew it was about to go kaput. Got home and put it on a battery tender, thinking it may just be that I have not driven the car for a while. Next morning the charging light was still on... Crap. Tried to start it and nothing. Checked the voltage and got 10.5 or so volts. Damn. Pulled the battery (AutoZone Duralast 48-DL from March, 2012) and popped the caps off - checking the charge in each cell with a cheap hydrometer. 5 good and 1 dead cell. Water levels OK, but a couple were a little low. Topped off with distilled water and put the battery on a 10 AMP charger for a few hours, then overnight at 2 amps. Thursday morning it was at 11.7 volts. OK, dead...
Meanwhile, I shopped on line all over town for a new one. Most places want $150 and up. I found a place in Santa Ana, CA “Powertron” selling them for $82 with tax. 1 year full replacement and 3 years pro-rated. I had bought a motorcycle battery there and it has been excellent for years. They are far cheaper than everyone else, save for used battery shops. Perfect fit and a decent case. It looks exactly like the Exide/Bosch, but is cast with back plastic and does not have the “eye”.

Another good option for a Z3 battery is Advance with coupon code TRT30. It takes $50 off their AGM battery. If you turn in your core, it works out to @$135 with taxes.
