A new Robbins soft top! Very impressed with the initial quality of the top. I am hoping it (and the sewn-in window) will last a good long while in the desert sun/heat here.

Does anyone know where I can find the plastic clips that hold the headliner to the rear-most soft top bow? None of them came out intact and I have thus far been unable to find them online. I had an idea to replace them with rivnuts and some screws, but my local Harbor Freight doesn't sell the rivnuts to go with the rivnut gun. I'd rather not straight-up rivet it back in, but it's an option I'm considering.

Edit - ended up going the rivnut route (with a gun that came with some rivnuts) with stainless 6-32 Allen cap head bolts and some plastic bolt head covers, which ended up having a nice finished look.

Love the fitment, any additional negative camber needed to fit the fronts? I’d like the same fronts but hear that 2-3 deg of negative camber is needed to fit. Also what tire brand did you go with?

Impulse buy due to the crazy prices on AMZN. I just hope these are delivered in the black finish. AMZN had one of each left, but is showing another set of fronts.

    2001 Z3 3.0i E36/7 5spd.

Upgrades for my Z in prep for Track

    Already underway or recently completed:

    • Porsche / Brembo brake upgrade using:
      • Used 'ebay' Porsche Boxster S Brembo Calipers, stripped and repainted (Hi Temp Red, white 'Brembo' stencils, Hi Temp Clearcoat, oven cured), rebuilt seals, new crossover tubes and bleeder nipples
      • Front caliper brackets from RallyRoad, front calipers machined down 12mm by RallyRoad
      • Rear caliper bracket from gentleman in Poland
      • Front & rear stainless steel brake lines from RallyRoad
      • Front rotor: 325x28mm BMW E46 M3 Cross Drilled and Slotted (StopTech from ECS Tuning)
      • Rear rotor: 328x20mm BMW E38 750iL Cross Drilled and Slotted (StopTech from ECS Tuning)
      • Parking brake adaptation: pressed in steel drum extension (designed by me, manufactured by emachineshop.com)
      • Boxster S Front Pads for use on Front / Boxster NON-S Front Pads for use on Rear (sweep entire width of rotor)

    • New Rubber Seals between convertible top and side windows (3 pieces each side, expensive for such small pieces of rubber!)
    • New Tinted Zip-In Plastic Back Window (better material than OEM, less prone to scratching, less 'memory' to folds)

    Just ordered:

    • TC-Kline Double Adjustable Coilover Kit (Front Spring 400#, Rear Spring 500#), Delete Camber Plates
    • Vorshlag BMW E36 Camber/Caster Plates & Coilover Perches, 60mm
    • PowerFlex Street Performance (Purple) Bushing Sets:
      • Rear Beam
      • Front Lower Control Arm Rear
      • Anti Roll Bar Link Rod
      • Front Anti Roll Bar
      • Rear Anti Roll Bar
      • Rear Diff
      • Rear Trailing Arm, Adjustable

    Will be ordering soon:

    • New front and rear wheel bearings
    • Achilles Motorsports Oil Pan Baffle & Oil Pan Gasket
    • Turner Motorsports Drilled Oil Pump Nut & Safety Wire

I already have the 17" Style 42 two piece staggered wheels that came stock with my Z3 3.0i and I have 7mm spacers in the front and 12mm spacers in the rear (if I remember correctly, but I have various other size spacers as well) and the brake upgrade will fit with these wheels as long as you use spacers.

With the Vorshlag Caster/Camber plate up front and the PowerFlex Adjustable Rear Trailing Arm Bushing set I should be able to adjust out any camber change caused by lowering the car (or at least most of it, the PowerFlex say camber & toe adjustment +/- 1 degree).

Next on my list of upgrades will be a new all-aluminum radiator and a Stewart High Performance Stainless Water Pump.
One of the first things I changed a few years back when I first bought the Z was the water pump, but I bought a metal impeller one over the 'plastic' BMW one, but I didn't spring for the 'top of the line' Stewart at the time.

When I bought the car it already had a Dinan cat-back exhaust upgrade (sounds pretty good).

I have already done the Beisan Vanos Upgrade as well as the German Auto Solutions DISA Upgrade Kit, I fixed the 'rotating key lock cylinder' issue on the drivers door, and the 'sticky' air temperature control (heater door sticking).

As for 'Big' performance upgrades, the last one on my list, after everything else, is a VF Engineering Supercharger Kit !

Replaced the VANOS seals and the valve cover gasket. I would place the VANOS rebuild high on the list of repairs/improvements that are worth the money & time spent.

Over the last month I re-replaced my soft top and put new brakes on the car.

Did the top after the plastic tabs on the forward bow broke a few weeks after installing. The warranty replacement has fabric tabs which I’m OK with.

Brakes were a kit from Turner with Meyle rotors, StopTech pads, new sensors and fluid.

I have a Foxwell NT510 on order to help diagnose the P0172 and P0175 codes that popped up recently. I really didn’t feel like messing with INPA yet.

I had Vt Motorworks replace the rod bearings in my S54 with the BE bearings and ARP rod bolts. While they had it they found the front Roadstars slightly bent, and while those were being fixed and refinished I pulled out the alternator and had it rebuilt. I've got the rims and the alternator back, will start putting it back together tomorrow.

I did! I'm pleased to say that it doesn't feel noticeably stiffer, and it does have a much more positive feel to it. Plus I no longer have to put my knee into the back of the steering wheel to put my foot on the clutch. Wish I'd installed it sooner.

Hopefully a lower temp fan switch too for the fan delete (thermostat should stay original temp rating)

I just bought a new fan clutch and fan (Z3M never had one in my possession). I assume temp switch was swapped, but not sure. Any detriment to leaving a lower temp switch in along with the mechanical fan? I'm tired of seeing 212-215 at idle in the heat.

CDV SS line replacement, new rotors with PCF Z-rated brake pads all around, and Rogue Transmission mounts! Such a great difference!

All till I noticed how much my driver side Wheel bearing is loose. jeeeez how haven't I noticed the humming......sooo I ordered a new Wheel bearing assembly.

And I hit 50k miles! lets go for another 150k, yea?

Replaced the SAP hose that had rotted through. I have reason to believe this was causing the O2 sensor codes and the idle control valve code I had. We'll see. I used a section of the old hose's heat shield to protect that bend that's exposed to the exhaust heat.

Wow, lots of expensive repair here. I only needed a headlight switch cover for $28, and I feel lucky.

Oh wait, I forgot about the two new rear tires I got last week. Michelin Pilot Sports.

New water pump and thermostat. The original water pump lasted 220k Miles. The one I replaced it with lasted 40k Miles.

Also so I bought a new fan motor. The old one only worked intermittently. That was a pretty easy DIY.
