    03 530dT - Ex Police Car
    Hi,

My Touring is one of just a handful in E39 production numbers terms! It's 'Police' specification ! This of course makes it rare and also, it was very base spec - no options, no goodies, no nice little bits whatsoever ! What id did come with was a bunch of 'Police' stuff, so bundles of all black wiring, dual/split charger batteries, clear anti smash film all round, 3 holes in my dashtop where a camera stand perhaps was located, 3 holes in the high gloss black gearlever trim piece, roof lining with a large flip down panel located further back to where a sunroof would have been, no SLS, and an ECU re-map. An enthusiast I'd often meet at local shows and meets worked in a Police preparation company and gave me and overview of what kind of things are done to BMW's when ordered from the factory as 'Police Spec' and some cars were fitted with upgraded suspension to cope with the extra weight of equipment carried along with aspects like flashing lights location depending if it was a full liveried car or a stealth unmarked one. I purchased it a few months after it's 3rd birthday in April'ish 2006 for very cheap, totally standard looking and various shades of white and swirl marked/hologrammed to absolute hell and back.. twice.

    Some pics of the wiring/batteries

For some reason, the lower battery was a Mercedes branded one! I suspect having the spec to be able to provide X amount of time various electrical items could be powered when on Police Duty and/or providing enough current to start the car if it had been at an incident for X amount of time etc. I found extra all black wires in the little cutout I have in my roof liner near the rear roofd mounted speakers! Where I could I cut out and removed these wires once it was known they weren't connected to anything.

    I've changed lots on the car and it now looks like this;

Just had a respray in brilliant white, a few modifications and there's more of those yet to come next up is a overhaul mechanically and maintenance wise, then another few more modifications !

    Cheers, Dennis!

    Dennis, the resprayed looks great.
I like the dual battery setup too, maybe not it's location, just the fact that you've 2 of them.

Well, nows your chance to buy it back. It's for sale already, but not knowing what you sold it for, probably a good markup.

thanks wagnons ho !! maaaaan....I never saw that coming.... Well, I can't say that fully. I had my reservations about this happening but no sense crying over spilled milk...nothing I can do about it now.

I'd loved to have asked $5k for that car and gotten anywhere close to that amount (especially compared to what I let it go for...). But I considered what folks like you, as (relatively...hahaha) upstanding members of this forum, have all offered as wisdom on pricing vs. condition and asked for what I felt was fair for the vehicle itself. It was hard, but I tried to disregard all of the unique bits that might have overshadowed it's true condition to an unsuspecting buyer....a rust-bitten e39 wagon. I don't feel that I could have asked $5k in good conscience...especially here. But that's just me... I might have been able to snooker a noob, but I just can't operate that way. I was in the Service end of the car business...not sales. You guys would have tossed me to the wolves if I'd have posted that up here at that price... and I wasn't willing to risk losing what little cred I might have with you guys...

Bottom line is that I agreed to the sale so, rightfully, I can't really try to make what happens afterwards any of my concern. Would have been nice to have gotten the courtesy of first right of refusal though...

If he gets that price, or close to that, then more power to him....he has more kids to feed than I. I don't have anything to drive mine around in anymore....haha...but again, that was my choice. I don't wish any ill-will on anyone, nor am I going to act sour about it. I guess I just understand better that I clearly have ZERO carrer in marketing....hahahaha.....

    GLWS jojo.....

At risk of digging up an old thread, did you ever get the 525iT info?

Those numbers seem odd to me. Two anthracite Canadian wagons but only one with a metric speedo?

After months of passively researching my RHD 540it I came upon this. There appears to be only 350ish ever RHD e39 540it registered in the UK, and recently they have begun to disappear off the roads. I am still trying to find out how many came as a slitktop (both in RHD and LHD variants), but I fear that is a couple of months more of google searches away. But as it was, from what I can tell, not an option and all of them had it, I think it is pretty cool mine doesn't (one less thing to go wrong on the car)

Gloss Shadlowline? I have never seen that on a US car pre-LCI. What are the last seven of your VIN?

You guys never factor in the fact that a lot of these cars at this age have had lots of upkeep and hop ups done to them by now?

It is a pre lci car, the interior has the high gloss black trim while the exterior trim is a matte black finish. Last 7 are BR95328.

Wait, you mean I can change my car trim anytime I want and back again and the factory will not know? Who Knew, Right?!! (sarcasm)

That is almost assumed at this point. I take the build sheets with a grain of salt.

That’s what’s nice about the vin decoders, is we can look back to when the car rolled out of the Dingelberrygolfing plant and see what originally came with the car.

Quite sure his #'s are the US cars ( Maybe CAD as well ) - but not a worldwide #. By 2002, wagons were dying out. if you see the 99, 00, #'s there are a lot more sales. The X5 stole a lot of that ( even though it has less cargo space ).

    I have a 99 ( GN90428 ) 668 Black/Black/Sport with Comfort Seats ( now 740i Sport Contours ), Load Floor, etc.

so my '02 in Toledoblau (only 31 made) but has also FOTOFAHRZEUG and STEUERUNG VORSERIE as listed options, this list shows that only ONE was made. Really? I have THE only one? Does this add any real value to the car or is it just good Cars & Coffee talk? If this is truly a rare and "unique" car, this will go down as the best $1000 I ever spent!
