OK this should be fun. Tracking declarations on big M62 builds and results.
Despite n00bz thinking we are all curmudgeon haters, I fully want to track actual successes as well as the dead-ends.
I am not going back historically for every single d-bag that's dropped out of the woods and then eventually disappeared over time but some of the big talkers or threads I remember I tried to google some old threads for and get down. In future I'll just make a note here and lets see what we get. Should help answer the constant n00bz0rz questions a bit and help them google for history..
My abitrary self-imposed rules (my thread, my rules):
- I'm not gonna track everybody here who vaguely mentions a build idea or maybe working on something on the DL. Just those who come in all ballar and declare their awesome skills and intent to absolutely definitely do a V8 twin turbo in an E39 making 1200whp by 3 weeks from now cuz, umm, ballarracecarskillz.
- Commercial kit based builds [edit] like my own not gonna really bother with unless somebody really goes over the top. Idea here is to capture the really big big fabricator declarations and celebrate success or track the dead-pool.
- Not gonna track non-E39 builds (where the engine bay has room for turbos etc.) like the proven successful M60 turbo builds out of Europe
- Not really gonna go all forensic on every old build, mostly current / future tracking. However I have tossed some of the ones that come to mind, last few years and/or infamous...
- I get to award whatever smilie emojiis I like.

I talked to and made friends with Wendell, he is local-ish to me.
He told me he is still looking for a good block and we were talking about how to get his timing tuned. There is a new to Austin tunershop (eurocharged) that says they can help but its high dollar. I think Wen is saving up...not sure, i will message him and tell him to get in here wiht an update. His videos are so encouraging and give me mondoboostlust

cool, let us know! yeah I got his email just haven't been in touch in ages, agreed good dude. anybody who gets a car actually smoking tires and able to drive it for more than 2 days gets full thumbs up. was one of the key guys I wanted to be sure I got on the list for that reason.

When I joined b.f. in April, and mentioned my intentions, I was a little put off by G.G.'s response. Reviewing old threads, seeing posts , now I get it. G. G. I don't know how you hold yourself back.
BTW I also thought about a "Gonna definitely buy a VF / Dinan / ESS SC Kit for my car!" & "gonna definitely S62 / LSX swap!" deadpool list - the first for sure would be way way way longer... but too tedious, already sank an hour into this one...

I linked him direct to this thread, hopefully he will pop in soon. Really seems like the only issue he needed to address was the tune, thats why he was killing blocks. If 1500 bucks more in tuning is all it needs, I hope he can swing it. From a cost and ease standpoint, IDK how anyone could boost a 540 cheaper. All the hard (impossible) fab and piping is a non-issue.

I guess the most recent thing I did is downsize my pre turbo exhaust from 3 down to 2.25. Adjusted my fueling, had to richen up quite a bit cause it builds boost 600 RPM sooner and is stronger up top. Made a very nice difference.

She's up and going. Was just tires that it needed. Would start it up and idle/Rev it a few times a week
Got new front tires tho and have been driving it everyday. There's some nice twisties behind my house that I frequent

Also need to hook up a vacuum pump to my brake booster so I can brake boost and hold myself at speed. Since I sized down the exhaust I can build full boost in second at 40.
Even without brake boosting it builds full boost in second now where as before it'd only build minimal positive pressure.
Anyone know how much vacuum is too much for these brake boosters?

Yeah I was only really hitting projects that origd here at BF.c, although I did add the Impossible THread build from M5B, so guess I'm breaking my own rules left and right. And trying to avoid "bought a kit" as that gets messy...
But since Kenny is adapting Toolmans build a bit, I threw him on there.
Unfort that led me to remember I should add Alvin on there. Sorry Alvin, you made the list!
if anybody got other suggestions, throw them in here, but WITH A LINK to the OP's build so I don't have to chase it down if you would. Again I'm not going to add every off hand comment a dude makes about a blower or turbo, or 'buy a kit' intentions especially, but just focus on the guys who have "declared intentions" on a custom big-power project.
