New to bimmerforums. My temp gauge on my 81 e21 would usually run at the middle now it's getting close to 3/4 wail running. My question why is it when I turn my headlights on the gauge goes back to the middle or 1/2 mark like it would normally run. And when I turn on my fan the temp goes up a little more with each speed setting. Can anyone help me with this problem please.

Hi,
Put this question over in the specific E21 sub section as this one is all about Car Audio and associated electronics.
Cheers, Dennis!
Common problem in the E21. Mine had a similar issue. The ground in the dash is loose.
Yup, it's a grounding issue - sometimes it's a loose nut, and sometimes it's corrosion. After checking under the dash, check the ground at the battery as well.
Hey my does the same thing while braking or with turn signals on it starts to move my temp gauge. I want to check the grounds also do you know where they are located?
It's been years since I owned my 320i, but as I remember the ground lug is easy to get at once you remove the panel under the dash. Bring a good flashlight (torch for Dennis!!).
Hi,
I like being UK <> USA double linguistic and often put my 'American' to use whenever I'm Stateside! Flashlight is one word I'm familiar with over there
E21 Luis, as per above, have a look around and also look at the E21 section for specific information or knowledge that might help ! Then, make sure you install an excellent audio system and ask here about that project
Cheers, Dennis!
