I am considering a candidate for parting and the one thing that I am not sure about is: How to get rid of the car once I take what I want/need from the car? I can have it towed, but who will take it off my hands in its stripped condition. Do scrap metal folks charge for taking the stripped cars? What do you have to do to close the books on the car? Thanks in advance.

Do you have title to the car? If so, go to DMV and turn it in and tell them you want to dispose of the car. They will give you a paper to put on the drivers seat once you have it on a public street. The city will pick it up and dispose of it. http://www.honolulu.gov/rep/site/csd.../cslmvr202.pdf

Make sure you do it the way listed above. I left my old 79 635 on the road for scrap and the city eventually towed it away. I thought I took all the VINs off the car, but they were able to figure out it was mine and sent me a letter with an AV fine of $160.

Question: If the car is not current for registration and safety check, would I need to make car registration current to change title of the car? Seller said that registration is not current.

You would have to stop by a Sat. City Hall for that one. If you wanted to put it into storage status, you need to bring reg up to date. However, since you are junking the car, it wouldn't make sense. Btw, cars used to fall off the DMV computer after 5 years or so, but not anymore. Their records are updated and the back taxes can be $$$$$$$$$$$$.
