Ordered a 2017 M4 coupe produced in late June. Its been sitting at the factory since July 6 due to the announced but not detailed rear differential problems. After almost 2 months of sitting I'm now told the car is being released for shipment without repair of the problem. Does anyone have any insight into this or advice to share? Thank you.
there was a sib 33-04-16, loud diff noise, replace diff, it covers mostly all the m cars, but the production date range was 05/12/16-07/04/16 for the the affected vehicles.
Here is the latest.

Aren't most of these differentials having the same problems? I remember the E9x differentials used to wear prematurely and if the owner complained they would change the fluid and if necessary R/R the differential as well due to loud noises encountered during tight corners.
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?
mine was delayed as well but was stuck at the port.
i was able to pick mine up(8/31/16) and the dealership mentioned that it would be replaced at the time of the 1200 break in maintenance, as they are still awaiting arrival of the part(diff)
