I'm looking to replace my stock 18s on my 2005 M3. I would like to get 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5rears. I just need to know what offset to get to get as close to flush as possible without adding spacers or rubbing.
Ive got new 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 tires to go on the new rims

Flush to the fenders or the shock towers?

ET22 for the rear IMHO
ET42 for the front IMHO
I went wider in both wheel and tire widths (why not?), but the wheels were custom made to be ideal for the E46 M3.
Front: 18 x 9.5 35mm offset
Rear: 18 x 10 30mm offset
With these wheels, the car has been fitted with 265/35 or 275/35(front) and either 275/35 or 295/30 (rear). I've had a square 275/35 set up for the previous two sets and the current set of tires and it is a nice set up.
Car sits on a GC c/o set up, lowered from stock about an inch. Aggressive street alignment (-2.5°/-1.5° camber) and there is no clearance issues besides when I initially had the 265/295 Pilot Super Sport set up, piled a couple of people in the back and added some aggressive driving over some less than flat roads (read upcountry Maui) and a minor bit of rubbing occurred.
If you are replacing the wheel$, I would suggest bumping up your widths... again, why not?
