I have a 00 328ci, had the vehicle detailed and when driving home after 30 min the ses/eml/tcs lights were going on and off, the car would barely run, then be fine, then barely run. limped it home. scanned it and saw codes p0120, p1580. cleared codes, and re-started, still barely runs, misfires at idle and will not rev over 2500 rpm, pops and chugs, smell unburnt fuel, only code that returned is the p0120. sounds like i just need to replace the throttle position sensor? maybe it got wet when they shampooed the carpets? i searched, but never saw a combination of those two codes. any help is appreciated. thanks!
The idle control valve is used to control the amount of air going into the air for engine speeds from idle (doh) to about 1800 rpm. It sounds like the throttle body is stuck in the slightly open position.
Your gas pedal has 2 position sensors, "A" and "B." That's for redundancy. If sensor "A" goes bad (as it seems to have happened) the ECU relies on sensor "B" and ignores sensor "A." I doubt that washing the carpets damaged the sensor. Of course, that depends on the amount of water used to clean the carpets!!! Was a garden hose used to rinse the carpets? /s
I'd check the throttle body for issues first.
i thought this thing was fly by wire, it got a throttle cable, after tearing into it the throttle body/tps seems like it is one huge expensive unit that will have to be replaced, is that correct???!!!
