"The Last Great e38" 2001 i Sport - Born'd on date 1/01 Cosmos/Grey - 32.8K miles - 2 1/2 " Custom Exhaust, Center “X”over , Modified OEM rear bumper, M5 style trunk spoiler, M6 OEM wheels, M3 Steering wheel with working paddle shift & CF trim, Bi-Xenon upgrade, 13mm Rear sway bar added, SS brake lines and bronze bushings, Cross drilled rotors and painted calipers, Akebono pads, Zionsville aluminum radiator & exp. tank with electric fan, Sprint Booster, BluTooth conversion, MKIV Nav., Custom wood cupholder, DUDMD Tune, Orien V2.5 LED Angel Eyes, Evans waterless. Recently added grey faced //M5 Cluster - all gauges functioning. Changed the grey carpet to black and topped off with GG Bailey front/rear mats[/SIZE]
The Xpel clear wrap was finished today and it's fantastic. The entire front bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, lights, rockers, door bottoms and associated trim pieces and lastly, the bottom of the rear bumper all the way to the back corner of the car. The stuff looks like new paint and has a 10 year warranty. I was extremely skeptical about spending the money but after seeing it installed on the car and talking to a lot of friends who have had their cars done, I think it was money well spent. But I would not suggest doing it to a car that isn't in near pristine shape.
Also, my brake vibration is gone! No more squeal when coming to a stop either. The slotted rotors look better, make less noise than the drilled and those Hawk HPS 5.0 pads seem to be perfect.
Tomorrow I drop it off at Thayer so that Clay can install my new 4 clutch M5 diff. Very excited to experience that.
Finally, the RD2's will arrive Monday and the BC's will be here by February 1st supposedly!
Trevor came up to finish a few things. Sport button works now! It was still rainy so didn't get to test out the diff too much. Just getting wheel spin all the time when I get on it.
can you post a link to directions for retrofitting the newer iDrive into your e38?

Guess I hadn't posted here yet about my other wheels. I had been looking for Racing Dynamics RD2's but knew how incredible rare they were. Eventually I gave up. I ordered the BC Forged 2 piece wheels then low and behold, a set of RD2's pops up in classifieds on M5board! I had to grab them no matter what. One had minor rash and all had some scratches. My guy at Allow wheel repair here in town was going to just redo the one wheel with minor rash but since I have given him so much business and referrals, he cut me a deal on all 4 that I couldn't refuse. I went one shade darker on the hyper silver. The BC's ship on the 2nd. Now my toughest decision will be which wheels to run at any given time
I'll reserve judgement till I see each on the car, but I have a feeling the RDs will win by a long shot. The BCs seem a little too sharp for the car.
what are the specs on the rd2's? i've always loved those! right up there with ACS Type 2 racing! I feel as though they are both 'period' correct for the car!
I thought these were tied with ACS Type III's until I opened the box and saw these RD2's in person for the first time. Now they are my favorite. Besides, ACS wheels are poorly cast. I have had 2 sets both developed cracks in the barrels very quickly.
These RD2's are 19x8.5/9.5 et 15/18
They were delayed as the finish wasn't perfect so they stripped them and started over. Supposed to arrive Friday now.
Stunning build!
Word of advice: wrap A pillars too.

No, they seem to be cast. Me too!
The RD2's will require small spacers to clear the front Brembo calipers. Ordered 3mm. The BC's shipped yesterday. This is the photo they sent.
I think I'm going to LOVE those RD wheels on this car, can't wait to see it!
CBlock
RD2's are mounted. I got the BC's and love them but honestly feel like the finish is too dark.
Those RD2s are pure sex...! I think the BCs look great too but obviously it's your opinion that matters.
I like them both so I just sold my Mpars I do think I am going to get the BC's chemically stripped and re-cleared. In person, they are very dark. Probably 2-3 times darker than the photos above. Much more than I had expected. But first, I will have my old tires mounted from the Apex to see how they look/fit on the car. I just wish they were half as dark. The BC's have the most aggressive look with major concave. I really love them. The two piece design with hidden fasteners is off the charts. I have never bought wheels like this before. They are like the ARC-8's on steroids with higher attention to detail and the RD2's are like Mpars on steroids. I didn't come out of pocket too bad by stepping up on both after selling the Apex and OE wheels either.

Financial advisor.
Dealer messed up one of my BC wheels by mounting it on tire machine incorrectly! Luckily they are buying me a new one but will take 2-3 weeks to manufacture.
This has progressed nicely during my hiatus.
Thanks!
Cleaned up the engine bay. Most notably the upper radiator support. The new BC will be here on or around the 15th.
Wow! What an insanely awesome build. I love e38s and I love the s62!

Apparently someone found your build and made a video on it. I'm sure without your consent like the rest of their channel.

Amazing build. It has me dreaming of putting an SCd S62 in my 840i.
