I think I will cut the mufflers off soon and see how it sounds. Then either straight pipe or put it back and get 2.5 M5 cat back with X pipe and Borla XR-1.
Thanks!!!
My powdercoater has the first test. The center section of the wheel. The barrel and center cap are still bare brushed with no clear. I told him to go ahead and put a second coat on and then I will decide between the two. The two shot he took and the last I took in direct sunlight. It looks good but I think it could still be a tad darker. If too dark, I will stick with the single coat of tint.

looking forward to seeing what you decide on!
i like the polished look on the 2nd wheel, as it would go nicely with your alpine white but still look classy...

Those are both the same. Just different photos.
I have been too scared to take the car somewhere to get tint removed so I bought a steamer and did it myself. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I pulled the door panels and rear interior to make sure I got all the adhesive and could clean all the hard to reach areas really well. Wish I had bought one sooner!
Also got side by side photos of the new wheel finish. I love the lighter tint. It's what I thought I was getting all along.
The outcome with the tint removed looks great. I've been really debating on removing my tint as I'm not a fan of tint plus there is a section on the rear glass that has a long bubble in the corner and it drives me crazy looking at it.
Do it! The E46 would look even cleaner than it already is.
Broke out the DSLR for some good shots of the E38 yesterday morning since I took photos of a friends E46 M3 for bring a trailer.

Thanks! Long time since I have seen you on here, Jordan (IIRC). Anxious to see what you have planned.

Yeah I sold my E39's and have the wife in a F25 X3 35i MSport and myself in the FBO F10 535i MSport modded to the tilt. The F10 section here is useless so I'm not on BFc a whole lot.
If I built a E38 I think it'd be exactly what you've done here, except maybe a Cinnamon red interior to suit taste, but that Caramel certainly looks killer. I bet the manual in that pig is slick with that much torque behind it.

It's the perfect car imo. I tried to combine the best parts of all my favorite previously owned cars. It's so smooth and quiet too. With stock 740 mufflers and hidden tips, it's the ultimate sleeper.
I was JUST watching this resto on YouTube (photo montage). Does my heart proud its a Virginia native as well. This is top notch! Sometimes out her in SoCal you get spoiled with a variety of different builds, but I hope to see this wolf in sheep's clothing when I return to VA someday. Cheers!

this looks so good, clean and classy - the M-parallels make it look period correct - I never liked the earlier wheels, they did not suit the car in my opinion, but I love your build so much that i did not even mention it - because the rest of the work you have done is so on point!
GL with this E38 - I hope it stays with you for the rest of its life!
Thanks!! As much as I do love M pars, I will definitely be running the BC's as they are one of the best looking wheels I have ever seen.
I do plan on keeping the E38. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it and there is really nothing major I would change. There are also no other cars shy of about $75k that I could possibly want as much or more and even then, they will all depreciate much faster than this and cost a lot more in taxes/maintenance.
I'm really inspired of this project. I just recently purchased myself a 1999 BMW 740i, making it my very first vehicle out of highschool. I had an idea just as your car. Hopefully end of the year I'll create a thread and finally start the project too
Just out of high school, first car is 740i, and you want to take on a project like Brandon's where he has nearly $40k or so into it? Sorry, not sure this is the best course of action for you, but maybe you have better resources than I did after high school. Just my $.02.

I wish there was a better OEM bumper for the 7, like some type of m-tech cover... this car is epic. Would have loved to see you do this to the estoril one you had.

Agreed. I have the alpina lip but it doesnt look right on alpine imo. I love the few bumpers I've seen where they graft the e39 m5 lower portion but I doubt they hold up that well. The estoril car just had too many miles. All the little things would have added up to a fortune considering how much I have in this one with only 42k current miles on the chassis.
Powdercoater sent me this!
Well, that was quick.
Quick like a sloth. But I know he's been super busy with Fortune Auto and Japanese Classics lately. And humidity has been terrible lately.
