AC not working, not blowing out any air

AC was working the other day, but today after work I turned on the car and the AC is not blowing any air at all. Could it be something to do with how hot it has been lately?

Like there is no air movement at all? Even if you manually adjust the fan speed? Even if you turn on the heat?

I have the issue as I described it and via research in this forum it is likely to be either the "hedgehog" or final stage resistor (aka FSR) or the blower motor itself.

I ordered the FSR as the first thing to try. Got the Behr unit from FCPEuro for $40. And they have a lifetime replacement guarantee.

The final stage resistor (FSR) or its connector could be the culprit. Does the climate control unit (IHKA) appear to be operating properly?

Ugh... Haven't gotten to it yet. Had to go see Pearl Jam in Chicago this weekend!

Should get to it this week and I will post results here.

I just bought an 03 330ci with the same issue, so I'm looking forward to your results. I wont be able to work on mine until this weekend.

If the climate control unit (IHKA) appears to be working and the fab/blower isn't working at all the blower may have died. Check the FSR first; make sure the FSR connector hasn't been fried. The FSR is merely a bunch of resistors that are configured to provide various fan speeds. These resistors get very hot whenever the fan is operated. That's why the FSR sits in the air duct. That heat can damage the connector and/or the wiring. BMW should have use PWM similar to that used for the electric fan under the hood.

Just replaced this last night. It is a super "fiddley" job but not particularly complicated. The good news is that it did in fact solve the issue. New FSR in and fan controls are working!

Because it is a PITA to get the the device, as many others have said, get the Behr unit not a knock off. I go mine for $40 from FCP. Good luck!

This is wrong. It is actually an electronic circuit board with 2 high power semiconductors. The fins are to extract the heat off of the power devices. I cut one open to see. That explains some of the odd behavior seen when these go bad.
