A lot of people only want the center feed. The side feed can work fine, the plenum shape just has to be such it actually feeds the front cylinders.

It's the same manifold used on a 2JZ as posted above and you're welcome.

I looked up the engine bay on the GT86 posted above. The plenum on that manifold is significantly different and a much better design...as are most of the aftermarket manifolds for the 2JZ.

I think the big advantage is fitment for a big top mount turbo. Mike ran a diesel trans at one time but broke it.

Those transmissions are rotated so the engine sits more vertical.

    Nick,

I looked at both sets of pictures, and I honestly don't see what you are referencing.

The runner lengths are ARE different, as the power target is much higher with the drag car, but I'm not seeing much difference with the plenum.

Secondly, Kenton is the ONLY person I know of currently building a BMW street car with over 1krwhp. He has already gone through a list of parts that most people would give a body part for, and is looking for the next step. He has shared what he thinks is a useful piece of hardware, based on the successes of other people that use it.

I don't understand why you are bickering with one of our brothers...

Adam, I was just trying to help make sure if people were spending 2k on a manifold that it performed as good as possible.

I understand the runner lengths are shorter/wider to help move the powerband up the rev range as you would want in a drag car. That makes sense.

My point was there is lots of room for improvement on the inlet plenum feed is all. I don't understand the concept of designing something from the ground up out of billet and just making it "meh." This is especially true for a high dollar performance part.

Im all for people pushing boundaries and experimenting. I think thats awesome and I wish I had the $ to do so. If I can help make that journey more successful for them by lending my experience I figured that would be helpful to improve the product. Thats all.

I really don't see a problem with any of the manifolds posted.

I don't know if I really understand the intent of all of this intake manifold talk. Is it really for big power gains, or more for the coolness factor? The reason I ask is because so far I don't think I have ever seen results that show any of these manifolds make a lot more power in a forced induction application than something like an M50 manifold does.

Have I just missed it? Someone please enlighten me if so! And if it's mainly for the coolness factor, so be it.

A few here will rationalize an intake manifold project like this with "transient" pauer response changes
but the dollar to effective power ratio is Trump Money territory.

    Other advantages include BUNGS. "/
