    Painting engine cover

Hey guys I have a 335i Bmw coupe I want to paint the engine cover but I'm not sure where to start except for cleaning it to death! I've watched videos and it says that high heat primer for at least 3 coats is good and then can paint with regular paint over it. Also I want to know if clear coat is a good idea after - please and thank you for the info.

I would scuff it lightly with a scotch pad to give your primer more "bite". I would not clear coat it though. Perhaps use high gloss high temp paint instead?

Scuff it for more bite? Not sure what you mean? Does that help with the high heat?

I always just clean with simple green or dish soap (diluted with water), rinse it off, dry it and then spray it with trim paint. Never had any issues with the finish on any of my cars ive done this too.

SEM 39143 Trim Black is a very good match and a durable product. Used it on engine cover and all the black covers panels under the hood.

All the exterior plastic, such as faded licence plate panel, and trim on my '97 840 with 240K miles.

Also a very good match for the front bumper on my X3.

You might consider an adhesion promoter also to help?
