    Best place to grab canbus signal from the wagon

    Hey all,

    Got a modlight 2.0 to install soon. It turns on a few cool canbus features and revises how some of the lights work, folding mirrors ect.

    Question is, where is the best place to mount it? It needs 12v, ground and canbus signal. I'm guessing the trunk area by the amp but not positive thats the best. I know the can signal is a white/grey/yellow wire (per modlight install instructions)

    Hi RSB,

    My iBus wire is in my dash area as my car just had the very basic radio/cassette player. If your car had all the nav equipment then it'll be in the trunk area so just tap it back there - it just carries ibus signals that's all. Connect up your 12V and ground and off you go.

    Mine has OEM business radio as standard with the DSP amp in the back. Is there a place to grab the signal back there? Id prefer to install the module back there as it'll be easier to get to. I am about to get off work and start poking around back there soon.

    Hi RSB,

    I'm not 100% sure so until you can confirm or take a pokey around your car, I think the area there will have the Ibus wire. If you do turn out to have the MID display in the dash head unit location, then you might well have the iBus wire there.

    Shouldn't be too much of an issue for you to find and connect though !

    I found it in the loom just under the amp. Now i have to go get some taps...I hate using those things.


    You guys think this thing wants switched or unswitched 12v? Switched right? instructions dont specify which

    There is also an ibus wire behind both the MID and the radio in the dash.

    I would think constant power that turns off when the car goes to sleep. This is because if it's going to be handling the lights during unlock/lock, etc, it wouldn't be able to do that if it was waiting for the key to be turned on.

    Cool, that was my thought/hesitation about it... Thats the beefy red wire with the green stripe under/into the amp, correct?

    There's several possible options. Basically, look for any device that needs to have constant power, but goes to sleep after like 15 minutes. Then use WDS to find the power wire for it.

    Constant power isn't typically big, since you don't want to be drawing lots of current on something that should be off when the car has gone to sleep.

    Well it all works. Mirrors up w/ lock, down with engine on. Follow me home lights and fogs, triple blinker. Pretty cool!

    Loving mine, haven't made triple blink work yet... Any tips?
    Ended up with the perfect pre-wrapped three wires it needed, just forward of the DSP setup in my sedan. Guessing it's for nav or the changer since I don't have those.
