It is! It's not for everybody but for me....to have the old school sound, feel and head turning with the BMW luxury heated seats, steering wheel, power everything and classic good looks is a no brainer. I will never say hey that car is identical to mine. May look alike on the outside but the heart is officially transplanted!!!
On a side note. New fuel pump came in today. The fuel pump was choking a bit so had to upgrade. New rotors and pads came in as well. Complete suspension refresh was already done. Front and rear. This weekend should see the temp gauge working. Also hoping to get tach working as well.

Can't wait to see this thing do it's debut burnout! I was pretty much day dreaming about this thing all day yesterday haha
Well today saw some more new toys. And I got the original water pump temperature sensor hooked up and running through the DME on a Ford motor!!!! Haha!! Sorry but it's the little things.
Still don't have the tach up and running yet but I have a lot more confidence now! I am determined to keep the cluster! I did put new rotors and pads on today too. And painted the calipers! Cleaned the rims up today as well. Closer and closer to that first time on the road!!! Need to run trans cooler lines and she should be good!!!

Wow. I love this.
Man that Engine is sitting so high.
Even the distributor is above the fender line.
"CANBus BMW arduino cluster" may be in your cards soon.

Haha it does stick up a bit . I can't go any lower with the motor due to the headers hitting the steering box. I could change it, but not at the moment. I have all diagnostic equipment needed to code out anything I need. I don't think anything else will be needed but time will tell.

Love love love the lumpy cam. Can't wait to hear it opened up under load, while seeing a 7 scooting. Pretty cool mindfvck
Sooooo...today was a few steps backwards lol. Took it out on the road for the first time for a slow break in and broke the center support bearing.
I'm going to assume this was due to improper reassembly after having the front driveshaft made. So, new one on order. We will see how this goes. If it happens again I'll just switch to a single piece driveshaft.
Also had a radiator hose pop off today lol. Scary more than anything luckily it only had water in it this time!!!

What did you paint the calipers with? Looks really good!

Cummon, post, post post. This thread is getting me through the day of psychotic patients!!!!
Haha. Sorry. This is a very slow build due to my work schedule. It should be out for a real test drive sometime this month! Then time to work out all the bugs.
Brief update...Tach and temp gauge working off of the ford motor running through the DME. Extremely happy to report that!

That's good news. Post pics of your upgraded drive shaft bearing.
Nice build, I'm following your progress, the oem center support its not going to hold, for the amount of torque it looks like it putting out, you might need to adopt a truck center support or go with a one piece drive shaft

This is awesome! Can't believe I haven't seen this before. As a fellow American 427ci swapped BMW, I certainly approve!!
Yes sir!!! I have seen your wagon and absolutely love it!!! I wanted less technology though so went with an old FE block vs. the LS motor. Hopefully I can produce similar results in Hp and torque. I spent a lot of time beefing the internals so I can add on whatever down the road. I would have to say that the cam has by far been my favorite choice so far!!

Well....no updates this week. Had a cv axle boot bust on my 4.8 so I was busy with that and buying some new furniture today. New center support bearing did arrive. Along with little odds and ends to add. Hopefully next weekend I can get the support bearing installed and take another brief run around the block. Gonna be installing the front end soon as well and getting all the add on goodies painted. I did put on the new radiator hose that busted on me last weekend. Hopefully it holds.

Can you share how you got the gauges to work?
