Some of my absolute favourite seats. Looks AMAZING.

    - 98 m3, techno/anthrazit cloth, 124k and officially worthless - 89 m3, alpine/black 143k and officially old - 2000 323it, tiag/grey, 169k and officially boring

    Cheers guys

Found them on an auction site here in NZ. They didn't reach reserve, I contacted the seller a couple of days latter.
Seller was Auckland BMW, new JC works seats, they had them sitting on the stock shelves since 2013.
Cost $2750 NZ approx $2000 US

In NZ any modifcations have to be certified, for insurance and for the car to remain road legal.
I throught I had it sorted till I took it in ................ As it stands I dont meet the requirements for rear passenger exist rules.
So the government agency requires me to remove
my back seat etc and turn the car into a 2 seater to get my cert.

Which of course I don't want to do, I have only one option as I see it and that is to find a base that slides and tilts.
    I'll keep you updated

    Cheers mate

This is from my build thread, http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/51595...hackar-part-2/

    "Certification Process

Called into Frasers yesterday to make an appointment for certing my seats and rear control arms.

Control arms compliance is pretty straight forward.

Front Seats not so, things I learnt

1 / Aftermarket seat bases /mounts are not certified so you cannot mount the seat belt stalk on them.

The stalks needs to fixed to driveshaft tunnel

2/ Because it's a coupe you require a min 300mm clearance for the rear passengers to exit the rear seat,

Once the F/seat is folded forward. Scott went on to say as all coupes front seats not only fold forward but

slide forward when released and that my only option is to remove the rear seat............... and turn the car into a real two seater.

3/ Along with this is the fact that an med/average person must be able to drive the car in "comfort and safety."

4/ The airbags have to be removed and the side pods need the airbag writing removed."

NZKW base plates and Sliders, fabricated internal side mounts.

Now in the process of fabricating up a way for the seats to slide forward freely when the back is tilt forward.

    Updated to this.

Firstly the seats have been in awhile now and they are great, love them

As for the certification process. I spent a few days fabricating up a mechanism that worked with seats tilt forward cable.
But still couldn't get the 300mm rear clearance on the drivers side, I was 25mm short.
As for the airbag removal, I got no help from Recaro in Germany
So in frustration I rang the NZLVV (Government Transport Department) when I went through the requirements that had been asked of me by the certifier the response was that the certifier was being a little over zealous in his interpretation of the rules.
I was lucy enough to be able to book in with another certifier (I had the contact details of the government official I'd spoken to in my pocket) but his input wasn't required.
All road legal now, got the little cert plate attached. ..................... That was truly painful

But God, I love these seats.

PS: If anyone come across DIY on how to remove the Recaro sportster seat upholstery, I would appreciate a heads up

    Cheers
