    Ling Ling's 1jz e36 Drift Swap

I previously had a build thread about boosting my s52 which never happened. To make a long story short, I jumped the gun on wanting to make more power when my skills weren't up to par with the power I wanted. Things have change. I got A LOT more seat time and plan on competing Pro Am in the near future.

My initial plan was to pull my s52, refresh all the gaskets/seals, throw it back in, and drive (had an oil leak and couldn't confirm where it was coming from). The s52 has a few bolt ons which would have been decently competitive in the series I was going to run. Well, before I pulled it, I did a compression test just for the hell of it, and did not like the results. Low comp on all cylinders and cylinder 2 is pretty much dead. I poured a cap of oil down the spark plug hole and determined it was bad rings since compression shot up to 140psi.

Well, after posting the results on fb, a buddy of mine offered his disassembled non vvti 1jzgte to me at a steal of a price. I've always admired JZ engines so needless to say, I was stoked.

Had him take a few pictures of the cylinder walls, caps, head, etc. I liked what I saw. I started doing some research and was blown away at how much aftermarket support Toyota engines had and how cheap the OEM parts are. I went and picked it up the following week.

Everything looks good but won't know for sure until I get it to a machine shop and have it thoroughly cleaned, honed, pressure tested, etc.

So far, my plans for this engine are:
    -Machine head and block
    -Polish crank and cams
    -ARP Main and head studs
    -Full Toyota rebuild kit
-Keep the stock twins for now
-Wiring specialties harness w jzz30 ecu
-Collins after plate/flywheel for ZF trans
    -Accusump with Electric Valve

I know I'm not listing things in detail but keeping it simple for the first year. When I'm more comfortable with the engine, I will convert it to single turbo and things will get alot more serious.

Btw here is my previous thread.

I've been looking everywhere for a 1jzgte service/repair manual in English and can't find one. I found one but it stops in the middle of chapter one. I either need to learn how to read Japanese, or just get my info from the 2jzgte manual which are very similar. I have all the torque specs I need, but I bought the engine completely disassembled so I'm sure I'll have questions when piecing everything back together (mainly accessories etc.)

In the mean time, here is a clip of me driving No Star Bash at Gingerman Raceway

Slow progress still since I'm saving up for a truck. E30 daily is sh*tting out on me after +300k miles. Got the NPR Standard size piston rings for the 1jz and ARP main studs are coming tomorrow. Also, painted the bay white to pass the time.

It's been a while since I've updated this. Been pondering the idea of just buying a VVTI 2JZGTE after selling my s52 but most of the money went to bills and Xmas presents. So, I'm back to the 1jz. No progress on the engine yet but I've been working on the interior a lot. Moved into a shop since I ran out of room in the garage.

did you weld the battery box to the trunk? or just bolt it in? (i'm guessing the fuel tank was out either way?)

I welded it in. And it's a safe distance away from the fuel tank. It is welded directly above the diff. Also, all fuel was siphoned out beforehand just to be safe.

that's exactly where i want to put my battery and much nicer looking than a 'regular' battery box. i may (read: "will totally") borrow your idea.
keep up on it! great work so far!

Haha thank you! I really dig the cleanliness of everything. I'm throwing around the idea of making a rear diffuser that will extend all the way to the diff. It'll help air flow and keep the trunk "cleaner".

i have a Mateo diffuser. i really like it. but it may end up on my sedan and build my own for my coupe. (i'm cutting out the spare tire well and removing the factory 'diffuser')

Sweet another 1JZ build. I'm totally jealous of that interior work you've done. I'm aiming for exactly the same, except I have to cut the rear rails out in the trunk since mine are already banged up.
    Subbing to see more.

haha, that's exactly where I was going to put my battery as well, until I realized what a pain in the ass it would be to access.

Only because you put your radiator in the wrong end of the car!

So this is wayyy over due. With A LOT of consideration, I decided to part out the 1jz. I didn't want to have to deal with assembling something I did not disassemble as the hardware were NOT labeled or organized. It would have taken me a long time to actually match each and every bolt up. So, I decided to go with a VVTI 2JZGTE...my "dream engine". I chose the VVTI model for a couple different reasons.

Anyways, I was jacked around by a local importer. Finally, after 5 weeks, I pulled my deposit and contacted JDM King of Houston. They were $200 cheaper and that included shipping. I went with them and got my engine 3 days later (shipped to Chicago).

I deleted the sequential turbo control and made it true twins control. I just ordered the oil level sensor delete plate and the rear sump pickup strainer.

I'll update a little later on what I'm trying to accomplish and my plans for this build.
