Hello,
I've recently bacame an owner of e46 320d 2003 with 190 000 km on clock. I'm very satisfied with car all around, but recently some issues have emerged.
I would say there are two issues, but not certain if it's in fact one problem with multiple symptoms. EGR has been replaced with a new Pierburg.
1. Loss of power (boost)
First it started periodically, but now it's much more frequent. When turbo kicks in, you can hear a loud „tak“ sound from engine, sometimes two in a row. When that happens, engine loses boost for a second, and you can feel it in whole car. Sometimes it loses power for a second but without that tak sound.
2. Vibrations in idle, and ocassional „thump“
After a longer drive, when the engine is well warm and I stop for traffic ligts; it idles normally for 10 seconds and then it starts to vibrate more, you can feel the shaking in the car (like it wants to shut down) but with no movement of the rev counter, rpm is stable.
Then suddenly like its heart skips a beat with loud „thump“ which is heard and felt in whole car. Rpm jumps a bit at that moment. „Thump“ is strong, mechanical and it doesn't sound good. Sometimes it shuts down after a thump.
Here is a video
Car is going to the garage in a few days, but if anyone has any ideas or similiar experiences, please advise.
Thanks in advance
i have owned a 325xi for a year now. it has always vibrated since the day I bought it. I have replaced everything you could possible replace that could cause this vibration and it still vibrates. I'm at the point of selling the car and cutting my losses. I do love the car but I cannot stand the shaking anymore.
