Yeah, stock springs. I don't recall a change in power, but first time it got noisy, I babied it home since the knock didn't seem to change the characteristics (maybe a mile, two at most).

It seemed to have gone away first time I checked valve set, where two of the middle valves got a bit loose. Adjusted it, fired it up, it was fine, shut car down.

Went to get groceries, 3-4 miles away, car was fine, came back, and as I parked it, got valve noise.

Rechecked all of them a day later, #4, intake I think, was tight. At this point made sure all of them were quite tight, fired the car, had a bit of noise that abated after a few seconds, which is what made me think tensioner, not valve train.

I'll shoot you a PM for tensioner discussion.

    Really appreciate the help!

Dr. autox320, is the PERTRONIX 600 DIGITAL REV LIMITER as easy to hook up as it looks?

As I start to auto-x this thing, want to make sure I don't lunch the motor. It would be a good excuse to put that 2.0 together, but I'd like to get some runs in before it goes.

Yes the rev limiter box works and is easy to hookup. It's been crucial for us in autox due to how I run the car. I drive by tach anyways but always inevitable we'll be stuck to ride the limiter on courses vs shifting. The only time it's failed was after the river incident so I bought a brand new one. It sits in a box cause we now run the HP digital box that has the same rev limit function in it.

The reliable setup is a any 1.5 - 3 ohm primary coil and a rev limiter. I ran the bosch red and then ecore coils. I like the pertronix ecore coils but cans are ok. If want a bosch red alternate can run a pertronix 40111 at 1.5 ohm can coil. A better ecore alternate is the 60115 also 1.5 ohm.

If running a pertronix ignitor trigger stay with 3 ohm minimum primary. I've had failures with less even though the II says it can run them it eventually burns up.

If use the CD digital HP box, the only way to get the most out of it is running the monster 60100 coil with 0.20 primary. Gives hottest spark and doesn't overload the CD box heat wise.

Quick question on the coils, the Pertronix is listed at 1.5/9k (primary/secondary) the MSD I’m running says it’s .7/4.5k.

I thought less resistance was better, but I also know that things are designed for certain specs, so more is not always/necessarily better.

Distributor is stock 80-83 electronic - plugs are AR 52, gapped at 50, wires are some Accel 150ohm units. Let me know if that works, I sort of threw some stuff at it based on various reading. I know zero or slightly less when it comes to electrical/electronic stuff.

Lowest I've run the factory ignition module (80-83) cars is 1.5 ohm on the primary. Anything lower could burn it out. Yes lower is better to a point. It's not gonna give much more as you creep under 3 ohms unless using a ignition box of some sort with capacitor storage.

Factory setup I used to run the bosch red all day long for years and it's rated at 1.6 ohm primary. The 1.5 pertronix I ran a few years before going to aftermarket ignitor etc then learned the ignitor II really doesn't like 1.5 ohms over long periods of time.

Ah yes my old e21parts ignition setup. That's my original setup . Great with a bosch red or any of the 1.5 ohm - 3 ohm coils aftermarket. Sounds like the MSD coil is designed for a CD box.

Ok, more schoolin' please. Between the 40111 and the 60115, I see one at 40kV, and the other at 60kV... (to quote Tim Allen, argh Argh ARGH!).

What does the upgraded coil provide? Reliability (important, the more events I make the better), consistency (heat is hard on electrical components, so as it gets warmer, no fall off), performance (a tenth or two in time would make me feel better)?

I've got a couple weeks to tinker before the event, and I never leave well enough alone.

Canister oil filled/epoxy coils will always run hotter and therefore fall off with heat. Thats why I'll always run an Ecore coil. They deal with the heat much better. If buying the limiter box I can see what coils I have as well. Pretty sure theres a few 0.5 ohm and 1.5-3ohm ecores all flamethrower coils in boxes here. Send ya a PM tomorrow when back in the shop.

Cool. I'll grab that limiter from ya too, holler and we'll square up.

    Cheers.

HMMM - This makes me think of my raising the sub frames in my e21s up to fix rear suspension geometry when I lowered them. On the track car I have raised it about 20mm or so.

Raising will help with the stock trails etc. Also raises the diff up same time to help correct axle geometry. Most just flip the end bushings upside down on E21/E30, then slot the diff bushing(e30) or move it(e21). Trail arm outer legs get close to the body. The passenger side outer leg about touches the gas filler hose. Watch for the brake line tab hitting the gas filler hose

Long road is lowering the subframe for lower roll center, raising diff to keep angles. Then having adjustable outer trail legs to change even further to keep lower camber, and correct toe. It's a lot of effort to do this but the results speak for itself.

Time to put it back to work. Prep. Gotta charge up the batt and test fire tomorrow. Lets see if the thermostat sticks again after sitting all winter. It's a bit dirty from sitting in the shop. Need to vacuum out the rocks and give a bath.

Checked and tweaked settings. With driver, plus full front with hood comes in at 1958lbs. Couple alignment pics how simple it is to use the dtm style layout.

Nice. I'm still trying to get to an event in mine. February event became a no go as the fuel pump died, and more importantly, wife's back gave out.

She just had surgery, and recovery should come day by day. Hoping I can make the April event.

Car is running, I should get the coil and rev limiter on it shortly, and Lord willing, I'll get a post up on it recounting all the fun that was had.

Crazy. My wife also had surgery a year or so ago and pulled her back this past week. Messed myself up back wise a month or so ago and put me out for over 4wks. Lumbar.

Cars running strong here so yup bought new shoes for when we cord the current ones. Just gonna give hell when can and see what happens. Initial pulls on the road once again promising so fingers crossed for the event to test a couple weeks from now.

Finished up a honda S2000 for a customer over the winter including a full osgiken diff build. About to finish up the S14 engine build for another buddy (he had to order new pistons) And now have another guys Mustang GT in the shop for adjustable konis. My other buddys E36 sits outside waiting on new fuel pumps and a full racingdiffs build (kit on bench). Then I need to weld up his exhaust thats broken at the header since the last hillclimb. Ahh summer here we go.

First event of the season on last years hoosiers. Waiting for them to cord any run now since we have 100 runs on them.

What I consider cars we came third overall. There were karts there and a shifter kart that stole the day of course. Also was a single seater Radical SR8 setup for autox His time was a 29.240

    For cars it was
29.074 Race prepped Tesla (the one I setup with Unplugged's pro race set+all sphericals ; Man this thing is super fast now)
29.123 Race prepped 2019 Miata (top tier MCS setup)
    29.374 the 320
    29.767 Miata kart

All separated by tenths. Least the car held up and ran strong all runs. Electrical was a little weak though and needs a new battery for sure. I'll have to check the alternator as well while at it. It barely restarted between driver swaps but made it.

rear droop limiters hard at work

pretty side lol (only rolled on a few times)

Nice. I'm looking pretty good for the event at the end of the month, let's see what happens.

I'll see if I can get someone to take pics of the runs, and see about getting a spot for the GoPro inside the car.
