Let's talk about the new Supra

So what do you think the new Supra/FT-1 has under the hood?

7 speed transmission or perhaps a 9 speed?

    I suspect a 3.5l turbo with a hybrid system making around 500hp.

How close do you think the future Supra will actually resemble the current FT-1 concept from the pictures we've seen so far?

Is Toyota planning to compete on the same level as the GTR and now possibly against the new NSX too?

What should be the price range?

Forgot to mention it will most likely be a V6.

I dunno, but I sure can't wait to see idiots posting "SUPRA IS FASTER/BETTER" on every single YouTube video featuring an exotic car, much like Nissan GTR fanboys do now.

    YES! Proper Hangout topic.

FT-1 is Very racecar look. Like a panoz but with less ugly. Like seeing Toy going so aggressive.

Seems clear that each company will sell their own powertrain - no cross sourcing etc.

Toyotas big motor choices are their 3.5 V6 or the big V8 in the RC's. If this is intended to be GTR-NSX level, it needs the RC-F gear really at the very least. Unless they have an ace up their sleeve w the LFA motor tech where they can come up with a scaled back mass production version of that mill. That'd be cool. And would be more aligned to a GTR/NSX competitor.

I highly think that it will no doubt be a V6 turbo, just not sure on the displacement. It's possible they may make a bigger, robust version of the 2GR V6 engine which displaces 3.5 liters already. I don't think they will ever put the RC's V8 engine in it. With Toyota's current trend of hybrid and fuel efficient engine technology it would most make sense to do a V6. I hope that they retain 95% of the FT-1 design when the actual production begin.

yeah. maybe. but a sports car is a sports car so if they put the V8 in the RC-F why would they make a wimpy-ass skimpy motor for the "halo car" for the Toyota? OK Maybe they want the Lexus to be above the Toyota brand, that but the LFA already does that for them. Not saying your not right maybe they make the 3.5 into a big power turbo motor, just saying I would'nt rule out something else just because of efficiency, given what this car is supposed to be...

I've also read rumours suggesting BMW will be supplying engines for this car. It could either be powered by a I4 turbocharged or using the 335i engine.

I hope this doesn't happen. I would rather see a Toyota engine in it.

A Toyota with a BMW engine would be hilarious. I wonder what the resale values on those would be...

I bet an I4 turbo. Power to weight would be great.

I would rather see the 5.7 engine in it. That Tundra engine is a beast. Loads of power and oomph amount of torque.

Two things I've learned today -

    • The new Supra is expected to arrive in 2018 according to this info here:

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...se-2018-launch

    • And Toyota are planning to build a completely new 3.0l V6 TT engine which may also be found in some of the newer Lexus models coming in 2018. Toyota have code named this engine as 943F. This engine is expected to make over 400hp and over 300lb-ft of torque, and coupled with a hybrid system it should be making near the 500hp goal and obviously more torque. This is some good news.

    are slow
What if, 2JZ-GTE with a gigantic turbo?

TT V6s are so lame and overplayed after the B5.
