Air bag light on but scanner says no codes

So after trying 2 different SRS scan tools, my 2002 Z3M still have the air bag on. I even tried clearing the system to see what it would do but the light is still on.

As background, the airbag light just came on one day. No work had been done to the car, nobody had been in the passenger seat, etc.

Any ideas?

I think so because it didn't give the E10 error, it just came up with the "- -" which means no codes. I'm using the 20 pin connector under the hood.

Okay. Sounds like you used a code reader rather than a scanner. Sometimes a code reader can't tell the difference between a computer that isn't responding and one that has no codes to send. That's why a scanner is helpful, you can look at the data stream and if it appears rational you can assume the computer is at least partially alive.
