Changing battery on 2003 745li

I can perform the battery change out without a problem. However, the local dealer says the electronics would have to be re-callibrated once the new battery is installed. The dealer wants $750 (including the new battery) to perform the change out. Is reprogramming the electronics absolutely necessary?

Also, the high fan mode on the a/c does not function. Medium fan does. I read that there is a function on the A/C system that prevents the HIGH FAN mode from operating if the battery is low so the high fan mode doesn't drain the battery thus indicating a need to relace the battery.

Does anyone have suggestions: A) replace the battery, B) may need to re-program electronic, and C) how to test the high fan mode, if possible, prior to changing battery or change battery and see if high fan mode works.

Live in FLA and battery is 8 years old. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

8 years out of a battery is pretty good... most I have ever gotten down here is 3. It's like clockwork.

$750 to change a battery seems a bit steep. You probably can buy the battery and swap it in/out on your own and have them reset the computer calibration for you for significantly less.

Find a reputable indie shop that specializes in BMWs. Try www.bimrs.org. Also, contact the local chapter of the BMWCCA for recommendations. There are a ton of BMWs in south Florida and I bet there are many great indie shops. $750? Ridiculous.
